Jexlar: Tried to alter my settings to increase the stability of my connection and I wrecked my line. Failed to connect. Tried everything including a factory restore. Done nothing called snap, took 40mins to get someone, went through the basic stuff he done what he could on his end as did I. He could see it was syncing yet I wasn't getting anything he told me to check the modem at someone else's and call back, did so, dsl didn't connect like he said it should, called back an hour and 20mins waiting and he said that was weird and he would get chorus to do what they could remotely and if it wasn't working by the morning call back. Whatever they done worked, but now I am hesitant to try make the changes again... :-(

Mine does this too -- the newer firmware. The first time I thought it was a coincidence, the second an 'uhoh' and after the third I have banned myself from touching any of those settings. Not a coincidence!

Solution? Power off the Fritz box and disconnect it from the VDSL line for 50 minutes or so. (It helps to go out and do Other Stuff so you're not tempted to poke.) Reconnect everything and hey presto, functional line again - be patient after turning the power back on, it takes a long time to boot up.

I had also reset my settings back to the standard before powering off, so I don't know if it'll resync without setting back to standard.

Surely this should be in a sub-forum of its own by now? Considering people use these modems with more companies than just snap (myself included).

Had VDSL for a bout two weeks now, looks like the DLM has stopped resetting my line, was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what DLM profile I finished up on?

From page one, it has a breakout box with the INP number and a ms delay. Looking at the Telnet figures from my TG589vn v2 I have a delay that isnt mentioned or im looking at the wrong numbers haha.
Any one able to advise?

sidefx: Nice. Can you get a sepctrum\bitloading graph off that modem? :) Would be interesting to see at that attenuation\distance.

Looks like DLM-1. The Fritz reports 1ms but I think 0ms is the same.

Looks like DLM-1. The Fritz reports 1ms but I think 0ms is the same.

quite interesting to see a 0ms there, the 1ms each way from the fritz seems pretty accurate (when compared to the delta of a 8ms profile)

thats quite a detailed report, upon request, would the likes of snap hand over a copy? take it you can only get that ran in the case of a fault though?

would love to see one of thoses reports while a line is in its training period, the DLM testing and trailing references could be pretty interesting to see..

You have to telnet into device.
Username: Administrator
Password: (blank)
I think it is then xdsl info expand=enabled

Good news everyone! Got SNR tweaking working with firmware 84.05.51 on the 7390.

Screenshot is only for proof that it works. The line normally syncs around 44.5Mbps with standard SNRM target. Obviously error rate is a touch high at this level of SNRM tweak.

Caveat and disclaimer: Following these instructions is done ENTIRELY at your own risk. Be aware that this firmware version has an issue where the line will appear "dead" if the incoming line is connected to the Fritz box when an SNR or INP configuration change is made, even if that's made via the web interface. Do NOT omit step 2.

If you do manage to "kill" the line, try resetting SNRM target back to 0 (steps 2, 4, 5, 6), then disconnect the Fritz from the phone line and power it down for about 50 minutes. Then reconnect it and power it back up, and wait a few minutes while it boots and resyncs. This process worked for me, I can't guarantee it'll work for you.

Steps:

1) Backups. Backups. Backups.
2) Disconnect the incoming phone line from the Fritz box. This is a precautionary step to prevent the line going "dead" when the Fritz initiates a resync after the config change. (See post 2 on page 132.)
3) Enable telnet on the Fritz by picking up a phone directly attached to it and dialing "#96*7*"
4) Telnet to the Fritz box and log in.
5) Execute the command 'ctlmgr_ctl w sar settings/DownstreamMarginOffset -30' to reduce downstream target SNRM by 3dB (i.e. 9dB target) or -60 for -6dB reduction (6dB target).
6) Plug the incoming phone line back in.
7) Enjoy your faster, possibly less stable, DSL line.

nice, a shame that 46 would kill dlm-1 pretty fast.. 52mbit for 10db really isnt too bad.

Well I borrowed a colleagues RJ45 crimper and crimped an RJ45 plug direct on the end of my CAT6 master line from the ETP. So now ETP -> CAT6 with RJ45 -> Fritzbox 7390

Still early days but I have noticed a drop in the Remediable Errors (FEC) rates which is a good sign. Unrecoverable errors (CRC) and (ES) are still 0 as with prior to this change.

Is there anyway I can speed up the DLM process to get me off 15ms latency and INP 2.0? Would requesting a port refresh help this?
