That's kinda funny. I'd be interested to see if a few other tests from other people yielded the same results.

I saw a review of the charger itself on YouTube that at best said it made a few minutes difference on 100% charging. Based on charge time graphs I saw on an article I think the difference maker with the extra power is the time to get to get the lower charge states. So half an hour gets you about 10% more battery on the bigger charger but the last 10-15% seemingly slows to a crawl and the 25W catches up.

Seems to be quick chargings purpose on Samsung devices is for top ups to survive the day more than rejuicing in full. If all you ever do is charge to 100% the 45W seems redundant to save a minute of two, but if you're someone that routinely charges for half an hour who has limited access to power sockets and just get what you can in that time the extra charger will mean more battery in that time frame. Similarly to EVs it's probably easier to just charge 20% to 80% repeatedly than going all the way to 100%.

Personally I'm rarely without power, I'm at home, in the office or in the car all of which have power on tap with quick charging for a top up so getting the bigger S22+ I'm hoping to adapt to hover in the 20-80 range as much as I can. I've been fine with 18w on my pixel 3xl and will likely be mostly using 15w wireless charging as it's easier.

in the video after 15min of charging time the S22u on 45w was at 34% while the 25w was at 29% which seems like a significant difference except for the fact the 25w got to 34% just 2min later @ the 17min mark, and it was the same on the S22+, after 15min the 45w charger was at 38% while the 25w took 17min to get to the same 38%. Given the 2min difference to get to roughly a third of a charge and the 1-3 min difference to get to 100% charge, the question is: is the 45w charger worth it for most people?

Apparently Samsung originally implied S22 & S22+ had LTPO displays, however it was noted they updated the spec sheet on their own website a few days ago, and S22 & S22+ are now listed as having AMOLED 48hz-120hz displays. Link. So now it seems that only the Ultra has an LTPO display. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung stuffed up and put the wrong info on their own website, or at least fingers crossed for that anyway.

GSMArena have attempted to clear up the confusion, as it appears neither assertion was 100% correct.

Both the S22+ and S22U report the same stops in the 10-120hz range, but it looks like the refresh rate of the GPU and frame rate of the display don't always line up 1:1; both displays would only go as low as 24hz, but the refresh rate can go down to 1fps for static images. It also appears that for the most part, the S22+ and S22U have nearly identical behavior, bar HDR video playback where the S22+ is fixed at 120hz and the S22U is still adaptive.

I imagine the behavior will also be tweaked as they update firmware, much like their history with camera performance.

They also had a pretty bold statement on the 45w vs 25w charging: that it's a marketing sham.

Nice! Is this a 'review' device or some prelease version for special people?

Good to know the first lot has arrived in the country.

To not throw any shade upon either of these comments.

It can probably do 45W (peak) charging but it's probably dropping back down to 25W for a number of reasons(battery too hot, phone's power management is being extremely conservative on how much it actually does accept, battery levels as well).

This was a controversial issue on the Google Pixel 6 pro too where it only charged at round half of what it actually could do.

I'd like to see tests with the phone completely off and a watt meter showing the actual wattage + amps. So far no one has really done that.

A review device. I guess this is one of the devices available at the lunch hosted last week (I didn't attend as I couldn't fly up to Auckland at the time).

The EStore and Online support confirms that it will START shipping 24th Feb, as well as some of the Kiosks that I've checked with.

However, depending on when you placed your order, you may not be part of the first batch, and therefore the website now indicates shipping dates in March.

Fair point, but then it becomes a distinction without difference therefore just more creative marketing (which is nothing new for Samsung, really).

If it has no meaningful impact on the charge times (as a clueless consumer might expect based on competitor's solutions), they might as well be talking about the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide.

Interesting, none of the retailers are saying they are shipping till 4th at earliest.

I still can't decide what bundle to pre-order.

Might be your first time ordering with samsung, as i said, every year it says "starts shipping xxx date", and if you have got your order in as part of the first batch, it arrives either on said date or a few days before.

i ordered mine the first day, and the date on the order is 24th.

Common marketing tactic for a lot of companies.

To be honest 45w is not even impressive. BBK electronic devices and Xiaomi have been touting 65W(Xiaomi has a 120W charger)+ chargers for a very long time. Samsung's been really conservative with fast charging tech.
