@frankv You need to wait for it to be pushed out by Samsung Korea or use Odin

Linux:

Only way I have found to fix that issue was a complete hard reset

John

Is that from personal experience or just reports from other users? I'm a bit hesitant because I've read some forums saying this doesn't make a difference either. I'll probably end up doing it anyway but would rather avoid it if possible.

I have a VNZ standard G7. I've been running Oreo for about a week, no noticeable increase in drain on battery.

That said, prior to Oreo, the S7 has been draining a lot more quickly than historic, which I put down to ageing. To counter this, I have turned off sync and location. I've also prevented most apps from running in the background. Both of these seemed to have helped.

My phone is 2.5 years old. I typically replace every two years as I roll into a new VNZ contract, but the S9 didn't appeal, so I'm holding onto the S7 until the S10 rolls around. If the S10 doesn't impress, I probably cut android and move to iOS.

From personal experience more than once

John

Edit: after one update I was only getting about 4 hours battery life and after hard reset back to normal

I always do a factory reset after upgrading. I've had noticeably better battery life since upgrading to Oreo.

frankv:

I have an S7 Active, which is AT&T branded. I'm a Vodafone customer. How/where do I go to get the Oreo upgrade?

Your phone doesn't have any firmware available to download from Sammobile so if you don't want to wait for the OTA update, you'll need to resort to Google...

Here's one link that looks positive but obviously carries some risk... https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-active/how-to/ota-update-galaxy-s7-active-update-to-t3784620

Im in the same boat, S7 upgraded to 8.0, and my battery life has been terrible ever since, lasting only about 8 hours rather than all day that it used too. rather frustrating!!

Agreed a factory reset should be done every time there is a major Android update.

@neveR you should be able to boot into recovery using ADB commands and your pc. Then reset the cache from there. If your not to sure about ADB, see if there is an s7 toolbox available on xda and use that to boot recovery.

Just did a hard reset on VFNZ S7 following Oreo update.

Only to discover that after reset the Google Now launcher is incompatible with my device, whereas it working fine with Oreo before the reset.

Action launcher to the rescue (I can't stand the Samsung launcher).

That's weird. I prefer Action Launcher to all others anyway ;-)

Thankfully, so far I haven't noticed any decline in battery life. Everything seems okay. I don't really want to have to reset if I can avoid it, as it'll take ages to set the damn thing up again!

Google Now Launcher has been deprecated by Google which is why you can no longer install it.

I prefer Action Launcher as well, but uninstalled it several months ago as  it started behaving weirdly. However, so far, it's going well now I have reverted back.
