hey guys...

has anyone come across any issues with their Note II giving an error when you go in to check for a system update?

a mate that has an S3 told me a couple days ago there was an update & asked, had I done it.

when i checked then, it said my system was up to date. all ok

but then when I checked again today I get this error message, its come up 3 times today.

another mate of mine said that the error message would only show up if I had a dodgy app download from other means than the approved places (google play & sumsung apps). But I dont & the phone was fine 3 days ago. The phone is stock std, no mods etc at all.

wanting to know if anyone else has this coming up atm?? I dont know anyone in NZ with a Note II

I cant see any reason why this is coming up, it never has before.

has anyone with the Note II had notification of any system update or was the update just for the S3? my workmate has an S3 & said she got the update notification today.

FYI, my phone is genuine Samsung, bought from a Vodafone store, not parallel imported etc.

this is the screenshot of error message...

Maybe try restarting. If that doesn't work try restarting with no sd card inserted

I haven't updated mine as i had this system update that stuck around as a downloaded app from samsung. I thought system updates integrated, it was called scloud.agent something...so, i factory reset and i'm just running vanilla with avast free virus checker. I think it comes down from the samsung accounts, which asks you to update. Anyone had that problem? My note is the hong kong version.

Pull all your data and factory reset. You've let something through or call ol Vodafone and see what they say.

Hopefully someone who knows these units and jelly bean better will lend a hand.

Have you set up a dropbox? and your phone backup? or back it up manually on a pc? If not then rip out all your data onto something or take out the sd card and find where it says factory reset in settings and hit it. it will wipe out everything. then it's the hard slog of putting everything back in, setting up the phone again. Whatever you do don't factory reset until you have taken out what you want to save if this is your last option.

If it's saying your phone has been modified, try booting into download mode and see what it says there. Power the phone off, then hold volume down and the home key while powering it on. It will have a system status screen showing what the current binary is, the flash counter and so on.

If you can post back here with what it says that should give us a clearer idea about whats going on.

edit - also type *#1234# into the phone dialler and note down what is listed on that screen.

tried what you said, it continues to boot up as normal but says its in 'safe mode', didn't show any screen or info, perhaps I'm doing in wrong?

awww crap, seems there was actually 1 app that wasnt from the usual stores... i went through rechecking everything & checked some things on my pc....

Readers Hub is meant is meant to be on the Note II & Note 10.1 but its not. I spotted the folder on my PC & remembered I had downloaded it from a site & saved it on my SD cards to put on both my note II & 10.1 devices, the app worked fine & so did the phone & tablet respectively.

its been on there for a a short while, when I had checked during the week, that error never came up, only since yesterday - go figure!

I have removed the SD card & & removed the Readers Hub, restarted the phone but its still doing the same thing when I check manually for an update.... no idea!!
