Bought a US8 3500mAh battery from dx.com ... it's charging to ~4200mV (acc to battery calibration app) ...

Is that how it's supposed to charge?

How do i make sure my extended battery will charge to the max and not just a half like some people complain about on the reviews?

(I intend to leave it plugged in overnight)

You might want to mention what phone model you use.

Also generic battery calibration apps are all bs if they are just deleting battery stats etc.

Nexus one battery calibrator for example (works for desire too) on the other hand addresses a known problem with the battery charging firmware.

Correct.

mAh or milli ampere hours is the measure of how much capacity the battery has, i.e. a 1000 mAh battery will deliver in theory 1000 milli amps for one hour or 500 milli amps for 2 hours or 2000 milli amps for 30 min or any combination adding up to 1000 mAh

Volts can be compared to pressure, and battery voltage has to match the voltage required by the device whereas mAh just determines how long that battery will power the device for.

By the way 4200 mV is 4.2 volts. Using mV in this way is quite unusual.

4.2v or 4200mV is "full charge" for a Li-Ion chemistry battery, regardless of capacity (mAH).

The circuitry/logic will work fine for any capacity of battery, so don't worry too much about it. If it went above 4.2v - then you need to be worried :)

I would be interested how you get on with this battery as I can't seem to get a day out of my galaxy s2 and it is isn't quite a year old. Quite annoying really

the internet suggests the capacity of the battery is variable - some claim to get twice the stock, some do some semi scientific tests and say there is 20% more than stock ... i'm hoping for something in between ... will let you know

not good. plugged in the whole night.

I notice no improvement whatsoever, if anything it's worse and the phone feels sluggish although that can't be right

Have you checked what is consuming the battery?

No reason a different battery would cause the phone to be sluggish.

Is it actually larger than the factory battery? If not I would dispute any claims of more capacity...

DX fat battery and back I got for my S2 was better than the stock one initially, but quickly crapped out to being way worse. would have erratic battery gauge as well, so it would show a decent amount and then plummet to 1% where it would hang out for about an hour of doing nothing, then die. Other times straight from green to turning off if I tried to take a photo with the flash.

well I must say the battery actually lasts longer than standard

I must have some thing sucking battery while idle

I bought it to travel so I can't give any scientific tests but I'd say about 20-50% more not 120%

I had a DX big battery for Samsung Galaxy Nexus, it was good for about 9mo but it packed up the other week I think, phone kept switching off for no reason. Factory battery back in and the poweroff has stopped... it seems to have about the same life as the big battery after 9mo. Still, for about tenbux, that's a reasonable innings in my book.

I have a mugen 4600mAh for my s3. With the normal battery, I'd get about 7-8 hours (heavy use) with this, it's probably about 40% when I go to bed! with about 6hrs screen time! Just used the standard charger overnight. It took a couple of days for the stats to settle though.

I can't wait until they bring one out for the s4!
