Wondering if there's anyone in Wellington who can do SMD soldering of the power button on a Galaxy S3 or anyone you can suggest for doing this repair? The part is pretty cheap so paying $60+ to get it soldered seems a bit crazy. My phone is doing boot loops and I've tried clearing the cache, doing a hard reset and restore and it's still occurring reguarly. Pressing the button kicks off the boot loop 50+% of the time.
So you want someone to remove the old power button and install a new one?
I can do this for you if you obtain the new button and remove the circuit board from the phone. It should only take five minutes to do with the right gear.
Obviously I would take care to do this properly but there is a small risk something may go wrong.
Thanks Graeme. Correct, it would be removing the old button and soldering the new one in place (here's a link to the part to give you an idea of the size). I'll have the new part and can remove the PCB from the phone. I'm at the stage of being fairly sure it's the power button causing the issue but just need to eliminate the possibility of a dodgy battery or app. Trying to interpret logcat files is proving challenging!
Why not just buy a new one? I think with the S4 mini that I had repaired you just throw a new one in and plug it in. I've used Callcom and have been very happy with their service, both price and turnaround time.

Unfortunately it's not the actual plastic button (the part you linked to) but the part on the PCB that the plastic button connects with. If it's as simple as replacing the plastic button I'd that myself :)
