hello fellow geeks, Id like some tech help please for a semi novice.

Ive had my Note 8 for a couple days now. I bought the Orchid Grey model with was only available via Spark - I am with Vodafone. This was the only colour I wanted so just went with it. But knew it was unlocked so would work on VF & it does.

Ive essentially followed this guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ey2Qn_n0t4

and double checked a few things from this guide also Odin Recovery Software

Got stock firmware from sammobile https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/SM-N950F/

But not been unsuccessful with getting rid of that full screen splash SPARK logo that shows when the phone restarts.

Results =

Im sure some will say, get over it, dont worry about it, suck it up.... But im not the only one that gets annoyed with this branding issue. Its a small niggle, but one id like to fix early on.

can anyone point me in the right direction?

Im OK with tech, well, enough to get by, but in this case, treat me as a noob, step by step so things are clear!

Ive searched & searched, some guides are lil confusing for me tbh.

Appreciate the help & wisdom of the geekzone community :)

Can you not simply install the Vodafone firmware? It'll replace the Spark splash screen with Vodafone of course, but shouldn't void any warranty.

I'm sorry, but if you find existing guides confusing you should stop right now. No disrespect intended. Is the logo worth accidentally bricking your $1600 device?

I have done a lot of modding, flashing and other things with phones in the past, and I wouldn't even consider telling someone how to do this over the internet.

That is what I'd hoped to accomplish. I downloaded the VF firmware from sammobile & did the proccess on Odin but it didnt work.

So figured Id try posting on the forum here

It'll be driven by the CSC. A factory reset is required to change this.

Download your build of choice, e.g. VNZ for Vodafone NZ, pop it into download mode with the button combo, flash via ODIN, then boot into recovery mode (before booting the phone up normally) and factory reset. Unless something has changed in the way Samsung builds their software recently, this will do the trick.

And we have a winner! Good ridden big ol spark logo!

I used the VF firmware & rechecked the steps I was doing carefully. I'd forgotten to select developer mode / debugging. Such a rookie move! yell I knew I needed to but it slipped my mind for some reason.

I found these guides were super helpful, clear as pie

and for Factory Reset (but use Power/Bixby/Volumn Up bottons:  http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-perform-data-factory-reset-and-wipe-cache-on-samsung-galaxy-devices/

Good stuff. If nothing else, be glad Spark has toned down in recent years - during the Telecom days they rebranded the browser app in Galaxy S phones to “Yahoo!Tworld” complete with a naff low-res icon. I was not a fan.

That pales in comparison with some of the Australian and UK telcos mind you. Some in Oz locked the dock in the launcher so you couldn’t change the default icon layout at all, and some in the UK basically rebadged the entire OS with their own colour scheme and replacements for stock apps. How times have changed.

Dam it dam it dam it

It's come back!

It appeared to be done successfully earlier. I even restarted it to check the logo was gone. Then powered it off, then back on to double check. All good. Phones all set up and mint.

Just restarted it after doing a couple things with apps & There's that bloody full screen splash logo again!
If there's somewhere I can take it to get this done I would. I'm pissed off at this Point!

Because they're "Spark Stock", It may be different now but back in my retail days the likes of HN / NL purchased all their phones through carriers who sent stock with their version of firmware. This caused a bit of confusion to customers when a "Carrier A Galaxy S4" was on sale but the Carrier B version wasn't when to the customer they're the same phone & model number.

It's got nothing to do with 'how often' the phone is restarted.

I simply want the ugly Spark splash logo gone from my phone. I paid good $ for it. I should have it how it want it.

And I want the logo gone.

Im getting it sorted professionally this week.

When you flash a new firmware (ie VNZ XNZ etc) it stays there. Are you restoring a backup from kies or smartswitch or factory resetting after you've flashed? All sounds a bit bizarre if you're getting the spark logo back.

Just be aware the "fix" will be to flash your handset with Generic firmware.

The result will be a phone that is very likely no longer 100% compatible with the Spark network. You will very likely suffer decreased battery life and won't have access to LTE carrier aggregation in many areas.
