Take it back to the retailer, show them, swap it for a new one. Done.
They operate in NZ so they have to abide by our consumer protection laws. Log a ticket with them, tell them you aren't satisfied with the state of the device and you want a replacement. Or, if you aren't confident with that, tell them you want to return it (you have that right in NZ within a defined timeframe), and buy it somewhere else.

gehenna: Just make sure you reference the consumer guarantees act so they know the conversation they need to have with you. You are within your rights to return it for an immediate replacement and you should not wait for a repair process.
It's reasonable for them to inspect the phone before accepting a return. I purchased an S22 from the Samsung online store, it was stolen by a CourierPost employee in their sorting center. It took over a week for CourierPost to declare it lost, then a few more days for Samsung to ship out another phone. I wasn't super impressed with their service.
To be fair I think even if you bought from a store they would still need to send it back to Sammy for inspection.
