You shouldn't "need" to boot into recover mode unless you are trying to fix a particular problem?  Have updated 3 devices at home and 2 at work (including A series) and have had no issues whatsoever with the update and didn't need to do anything more than revise a few settings.

Booting to Recovery Mode requires more than fingers pressing buttons now. You need to have your Galaxy connected to an energy source via USB. Samsung specify a computer but connecting to a charger seems to work as well.

Clearing the cache partition is a bit like deleting the Windows.old folder created during a major Windows update. Upgrading the Android version & Samsung's UI together involves a serious download - 6GB is not unusual now. Having installed a totally revamped system (& hopefully booted successfully), going into Recovery Mode for a one-off wipe of the cache partition is a recommended action. The detritus left there by the upgrade installation will never be used again. It's also the system cache, not the individual apps cache so you won't lose your game progress or Spotify downloads.

Although many Samsung devices upgrade OTA just fine, there are others that are particularly vulnerable to complete failure after a Samsung One UI update.

Recent flagship S22 Ultra is a prime example, search "S22 Ultra upgrade boot loop" & read thousands of stories of panic that turns to despair as they try & try & try to return their now out of warranty handset to life after a factory update destroyed it. Actually, drop the Ultra, just search S22. There's no known indicator that this is the last moment of your phone's useful life, it just happens. Not just OTA either, Odin installs can result in dead phones post upgrade as well. I'm told that unzipping the full firmware file then sideloading each component image, one by one, is the most reliable path. Seems like a lot of high-risk effort for not a lot of reward to me. I haven't yet seen or heard of any other reputable brand having this type of problem.
