If you aren't a subsciber why do you care? Lots of people like Sky and find it reasonable value.

Apparently the 93,000 ex-subscribers estimated by Sky don't see the same reasonable value as you.

Even tdgeek, who has staunchly waved his Sky flag alongside you on GZ these last few years, has stated on this thread that he is now considering leaving.

Not too far from now, I can see a future when parents will tell their kids "I remember when we used to pay over $100 a month for the privilege of watching cable tv, clogged with adverts, in crappy definition" in the same fond way we now tell our kids about milk bottles, music cassettes and everything else that has passed into a bygone age.

Re me considering leaving, a bit of context. You seem to imply I am flipping. Nothing I e said in the past changes. F1 is my networkn’s Rugby. As my passion sport has gone that’s a huge hole in value gone. As I can get MotoGP via a non geolocked app (I think) that’s 15% of the other 20% sorted. I’ll see if the MySky bill goes if I can buy the new puck and what Sky does then function and content wise

Just announced their April 1 price rise too.. https://www.sky.co.nz/pricechange. Total increase of $3.67 for starter, entertainment & sport

SKY Starter will increase by $1.08 per month, SKY Entertainment by $0.50 per month and SKY Sport by $2.09 per month.

Well, they do annual increases, like lots of companies. What did Netflix just increase their prices by? 22% or something which is the second decent increase in 3 years?

No-one likes increases, unless of course it's to their OWN pay packets.

Just something to think about.

Netflix has never done annual price rises. Annual price rises are what got Sky into the trouble they are in now. After 20 odd years they believed the average kiwi could afford $150/month without blinking.

This Sky increase is not an annual increase. It’s a 3 year increase. 1.9% in 3 years.

Not implying that at all.

As a long time Sky subscriber, the ongoing value for money to you is becoming less attractive and soon may not be enough to keep you. As it is for many, and I would suggest most, within the near future.

Content changes from time to time. In this particular case it heavily affects me so I might change what I do with Sky. Those that left have generally left to save money. I can understand that.

That would the net 93,000 subscribers that Sky expects to lose over the next 4 years? At that stage it'd have as many subscribers as Spark has broadband subscribers, right? Its still got 750k subscribers and annualised revenue of $800m.  Thats still a good amount of revenue.  Hows Lightbox doing?  Doubled revenue.  But double SFA is still SFA.  Netflix NZ - probably about the same revenue as Mediaworks if Roy Morgans survey is a good metric.  TVNZ - less than half the size of Sky and a 10th of the profitability.

In the last 6 months 61,000 left Sky but somewhere somehow 43,000 people joined Sky.  Some people find reasonable value elsewhere, Some people find reasonable value in signing up. Its a question of utility and value.  As content shifts the utility equation changes.

I'll have to check, but I think my hd ticket was part of multi room so I might not get the benefit of the hd reduction after all. However, I don't really need two boxes anymore so may be able to ditch multi room and save myself $25/month.

Now where is that most recent Sky bill?

True , but I’d wager not many paid the going rate.
IMHO the reason its not much higher is because they’re ringing round offering half price this, half price that , free this etc

But that should be reflected in ARPU, correct?  If new signings are coming on board at reduced rates then that would be reflected in the ARPU.  What happened to satellite ARPU in the 6m compared to the pcp?  And please explain how that happened......

I'm considering going although I'd prefer to stay. No F1 means a heavily diluted value now for me. But I'll stick around for the puck announcement, it may come a bit sooner now.

Its 750k subscribers now? Years ago it was over 800,000. Thats say 100,000 in a few years, thats not a lot per year despite the graveyard comments every year/month. Over 40% of NZ think its ok

Imagine if Sky had a product that didn't rely on their hardware that people could run side by side Spark Sport that didn't cost 5x as much!

And they will point to the $150 they now pay 9 providers for the 2 programs they can't live without from each of those providers that all used to be under one roof with Sky. They will pay $20 to NZR for Rugby, and F1 for the F1, PSA $20 for the Squash, NRL $20 for League and cry that they used to pay $30 for the same on Sky.

Or they will tell their kids about how they used to have a lot of content, provided by Sky, that they no longer have because the internet provided rurally is so poor they can't stream. Crime rates in rural areas will spike and Global Warming will cause flooding and nearly end the world.

You aren't a Sky Subscriber, why do you care what they charge, what they are doing or how they are doing it? Surely you have better things to do? Or not. Go watch something on Netflix.

With way less than 1/5 the content!

God, I love how every single Sky thread devolves into a Sky Bashing thread.

Disclaimer: I gave up Sky some years ago as it no longer represented value for me (I only watched about 6 channels but had to pay for the whole lot). I understand prices rise, etc - however it seems to me almost every time Sky puts out a press release saying "we've lost subscribers", almost immediately they put out another one saying "we're putting prices up". While I understand the two things go (somewhat) hand-in-hand, personally to me it's not a great look. They could have waited a while before raising the prices, maybe a month or something, give the "subscribers are leaving us" story time to disappear.
Just my 2c.

I was thinking getting rid of my multi room as well, problem is the room I’d want to remove is the one that powers the dish, relatively speaking multi room is now adding a $25 additional cost, where before compared with having HD ticket was adding $15.

I think the splitter in roof only allows power through one way, other option would be to buy a cheap Freeview receiver I guess and see if it powers dish ok.

I’ll wait for now to see what additional channels get HD, hoping Sky 5 is one of them.

Yep, I once mentioned that probably years ago, I think I said I have a Honda Euro car, I don't have a need to scream at Hyundai owners, summit like that.
