Some Daikin heatpumps need a daughter board that plugs into the main pcb, then the Wi-Fi controller plugs into the daughter board. I had this recently on my GFs Daikin heat pump

Vaguely relevant to this thread and it saves creating a new one for a single question: Has anyone had problems with the Broadlink IR controller software forgetting its settings every time it's used? That is, instead of setting the heat pump to the last-used settings so it's only necessary to tap "On", it goes back to a default set of values that are nothing like what I want the heat pump to run at, requiring changing multiple settings before turning it on, every single time it's used.

Heat Pump IR controllers usually don't send a change of state for individual commands, they dump a full set of commands at each transmit.

When you send an "On" command you are also sending fan speed, mode, swing direction etc. When you taught the controller the "On" command you also taught it whatever settings it had at the time. It sounds like that's what it's sending.

I use home assistant, manually recorded the commands I needed. Much better than the broadlink app.

When I used to use the broadlink app it was ok. It didn't forget settings.

I'm aware of that, which is why I was asking whether the behaviour of the Broadlink app, where it resets everything in the app to default every time it's used, is a known bug, whether there's some config option to have it remember the last-used settings, whatever.

That's what I remembered from last winter as well, you just tapped On and it sent the last-used settings configured in the app.

Just fired up the app again to check and it's back to default settings for the Daikin, it's forgotten the values I set last night. Looks like an email to Broadlink support is in order...

Alright, I bought one of the last PCBs from https://github.com/revk/ESP32-Faikin on Amazon to have a test. And it works like a charm. I can't tell you how impressive this is as the Daikin I have is made in 2008 which is 15 years old.

Some installation photos:

No expensive (and unobtainable) official cable required. Just some spare jumpers and masking tape.

Looks good - as the unlocatable cable isn't necessary I've ordered one as well (had to set the address to the UK You Shop one to get Amazon to ship it/say it is in stock though).

Oh is that so? I was able to buy on Amazon with direct shipping to NZ. It even removed 20% UK GST and used 15%.

I need to buy 3 more of these.

I'll do a bit more research, bit I may have one to sell: I've just received my PCB from Amazon/Youshop, and although I had assumed that connecting it wouldn't be an issue as I've got a relatively recent unit, it seems that my Daikin Cora unit (FTXM50UVMZ) has no internal S21 header, but only an S403 header on the internal PCB.

A brief internet search indicates that I would need an additional interface such as a KRP980B1 to provide an S21 port, and as those adapters cost a couple of hundred dollars it moves it over my "nice to have" threshold.

Would explain why people have been quoted such varying prices for wifi units from Daikin installers in NZ if some units no longer come with the interface hardware.

If you are selling it, let me know. I've had it with the #&*^%*&# Broadlink app constantly forgetting its password, so almost every time I want to use it to ensure the house is warm when I get home I can't because it can't log on to anything. I assume the Daikin one Just Works.

Yep - looks like I will need an adapter, so I won't bother sourcing that and will be selling the unit unused.

Including the YouShop fees it cost me just over NZ$90, so NZ$80 incl shipping seems to be a fair price.
Somehow I've lost all my socket-socket jumper cables, so you'll have to pick some of those up, and don't forget to first check that you have an S21 header :)

OK, let me check tomorrow (during the day, when the unit isn't running :-) that I've got the right connector for it.

Rant: Daikin must have some of the most user-hostile WiFi I've ever encountered. There's at least a dozen models, all of which look identical but which are advertised as only working with a specific subset of indoor units, the indoor units have different names in different countries so it's hard to tell whether your Endura is compatible with the Plonka that the Czech site is talking about even though they look the same, and installing one involves pulling half the unit apart just to get the cable attached, assuming you get lucky and you've hit the right gratuitously incompatible interface. When they're charging $200+ for a $10 device you'd think they could just have it slot into a location in the case and that's it.

If not taken by neb I'll happily take it - I have a S21 on mine and keen to see if it will work. Thanks.
