The number customer is on Account, not a prepay customer. The new customer was given this number in JUNE and i toped up in MAY.

Surprisingly, I just received an email from Telecom saying that the number was assigned to someone in MARCH and not JUNE as stated before.

There is something fishy.

Now this complicates things.. someone made a booboo on the telecom side and now seems they trying to cover up..

What "might" have happened is they would have seen your account activity a flat line and would not have expected you to check your sim card anytime soon and they would have been hoping you would go over the top up period again and so they could deactivate you easily..

GrandMasterSaxay: @ plambrechtsen - I spent whole saturday afternoon talking to Prepaid and Postpaid CSRs, initially they were bit loud and agressive, they put me on hold for 30-35 mins (twice), at the end of the call they accepted the folly (from prepaid team) and were offering me a similar number, to which i declined.

You can still take up my offer to e-mail me the details and I can speak with the Mobile team to investigate further.

That to me sounds far more likely.

I suspect (but may be wrong so don't quote me on this!) what happened is your sim was disconnected in Jan 2012, then reconnected to a new subscriber before May when you topped up. Anyone can top-up online to a mobile number, you just need to enter in the number you want to top-up with your credit card details.

Then when you went in-store they checked the number was active (which it was) but didn't check that the SIM in your hand was the active SIM.  Did the store person try to make and receive a call/sms on the phone in front of you?  Or were they just looking up the state of the mobile number in the computer?

There are ways to change the mobile number around from the other account holder if they agree to.  However that would be dependant on the current owner of the number.

Still happy to offer assistance if you forward through the details.

I got a reply from Telecom...my number was deactivated in Jan 2012, new owner was connected in Mar 2012, the number was temporarily disconnected when I topped up my number, the number was activated again in June 2012.

The statements are so contradicting, when I went to the Telecom store on 4th Aug, the consultants checked the number thoroughly and confirmed that the number was disconnected in Jan 2012 but got connected again in Jun 2012, he did not mention anything about the temporary disconnection in March. I called up prepaid and pospaid the same day on 4th Aug, they too mentioned that the number was connected  on 25th June.

Since yesterday I get to hear altogether a new story, the number was disconnected in Jan, reconnected in Mar, temporary disconnecion, again a reconnection in June.

Are they trying to manipulate the system ? Being from Telecommunication background I know this can be done, running past date orders is not a big deal.

At the end of the day, you didn't top it up for over 12 months so Telecom were within their rights to deactivate and re-assign. It seems like there's been something strange going on with the number since, but any credits or offers of a similar number will purely be goodwill on their part.

I did not top up for 12 months, its the fact. The number got deactivated in Jan, I recharged in May, poped in my sim card at Telecom Store, confirmed with the consultant, my sim was active with network bars. I guess I visited the Telecom Store on Saturday (24th June), and on monday (26th June) the number got connected to someone else's account.
