lukegm: akia,

Are you able to tell us if this is the extent of changes Telecom NZ are planning on making to SMS delivery or are there likely to be further changes?

If other changes are likely, are you able to tell us what they would be or if Telecom NZ will announce them before implementing them?

Thanks

SMS Delivery is a general topic. In regards to International SMS (sent to NZ) this is the only change so far. We're investigating into the issues brought up in this forum.

For folks that only send a smaller number of SMS's why don't they just go for a prepaid sim that gives a large number of SMS's to any-network and then use an internal EMAIL-SMS Gateway.  I've set these up a few times and a cheapie TStick or similar datastick for sms'ing and it works a treat.
This works well if your only sending less than 3k per month depending on if you go with Telecom or 2Degress who have the best any-net plans right now.

Just to give some more details here Akia,

Our NZ team organisers are currently generating 200k sms from Teamer a month with this due to double quickly now the winter sports seasons have just restarted. These messages in turn generate a 50% response rate from players responding with their availability for their match. It feels like a bit of a lose lose here, TelecomNZ miss out on sms traffic, the players miss out on availing of the service and we can't operate effectively in NZ, it's hard to see who benefits.
Given that the two providers we use to send into NZ are large global aggregators, our service had to go through a thorough vetting process before they agreed to send on our behalf. We would really appreciate an opportunity to put our case to you guys if that would be possible.

Thanks again for your time

Ragnor: This change is "throwing the baby out with the bath water"....

The baby can no longer go to the free public school and has to attend the costly private school.

hhhmmmmm... I wonder if this is why my new iPhone 4 (on XT) won't activate FaceTime.

FaceTime requires SMS verification back to the iPhone 4 before it can activate... (even though FaceTime itself is a WiFi service)

I have heard of another person having the same problems as me on XT last week.... But people before then appear to have had no problem activating FaceTime.

My colleague has just tried it beside me here and it's delivering it fine. If you're still having problems best to give 123 a call and get someone to investigate.

EDIT: We've just completed some more testing and found that ported numbers don't seem to be working again. Although this is a side topic in this thread - I'll forward the details onto our technicians and get them to investigate.

We block all international traffic incoming to a New Zealand number unless it comes from an approved carrier

So a week later now regarding the above statement ^

Where is the list of approved carriers?

Thanks for the quick response.... and yes - I have a ported 021 number with my iPhone 4 on XT. Appreciate the testing and knowing techs are looking into it. How/where should I look to know it's fixed?

Looks like Telecom is also blocking SMS from Skype as well.. This is becoming a royal pain in the butt.

Over the last week my business has been severely impacted by
non-delivery of SMS messages by Telecom NZ -- messages from Clickatell and other
gateways are simply dropped by Telecom NZ and the carrier is passed an
incorrect postive delivery status.

Telcom's SPAM argument is disingenuous -- it's not the carrier that's
being targeted it's the sender's NZ country code. I've just
successfully sent messages via Clickatell to Telcom NZ numbers using a
non-NZ sender country code in the sender ID, if I send the same
message with a NZ country code in the sender ID it gets blocked.
It's also interesting that Vodafone NZ along with most of the rest of
the world don't need to resort to these blanket``anti-SPAM'' blocking
measures.

This discriminatory tactic is simply an attempt by Telecom NZ to stop
Zealanders from using much cheaper International SMS gateways (local
providers with direct agreements with Telecom NZ charge around
250% more that Clickatell).

Just curious, what do Clickatell and the others say about the service they are charging you for, but not delivering? Why complain to Telecom when no-one is paying them for this service? Isn't that back to front?
