coffeebaron:

Log in to your router and look for a page that has your ADSL stats. This varies between different routers, but your are looking for your downstream speed. If you get stuck, post your router model here.
When you run the speedtest.xport.co.nz test, the speed should closely match your router sync speed (less maybe 10%). If not, then you know there is an issue between you & Xnet (e.g., exchange congestion, Xnet issue on handover etc).

As for tracert, open up a command prompt and type in:
tracert speedtest.xport.co.nz
Paste the results back here.

coffeebaron,  thankyou for your help.   Mr been sleeping.

Logged into  router.  can not spot sync speed.    Lots of pages of  "stuff"  :)
Modem is  Dick Smith  XH1169   ( even looked at manual ).

Did trace    how do I cut and paste   from a command  prompt  window.    ?

        many thanks    Bruce.

Assuming you're using a default 'cmd' box:

Right click > Select all
Once everything's selected, right click again.

That should grab it all into the clipboard.

Have looked at the online manual for this, and the info should be on the "home" page of the router log-in. Look about 1/2-2/3 down for ADSL, there should be "upstream" & "downstream" listed with a figure in Kbps

As per Detruire's comments, but I think the main thing to look for is whether one of the 1st hops is to dsl01 or dsl02 etc, else wxnz.net.

Detruire: AU = good
US = bad

My US speed dropped off later in the evening too. This is not really an issue for me though, my main issue was speeds between me & Xnet dropping below 500Kbps, and variable quality. Turned my VFX service to custard!

I'm not sure if their extra international bandwidth has kicked in yet, but shouldn't be too far off. Maybe they could introduce an optional "off peak" plan. E.G. same plans as now, but say 50c per Gig off peak, $2 per Gig on-peak. That way it gives the big users the choice to do their big downloads cheaper in the quiet wee hours of the morning, thus even up the peak traffic a bit.

Anyway, just a thought

like  that  idea,  but not with increase in peak hours.    And with super-cheap  rate  for wee hours.

Could plunder the world, on the graveyard shift.

I can't work out if I'm getting better speeds or not.
At least to the US, speeds still seem poor (20-30kBps)
Europe and AU seem fine though. I'm starting to think ANC again.

I like having one simple price, and XNET shaping my traffic during onpeak, and me blasting down data offpeak. :-)

I think they should have a small bandwidth pool for the really heavy users who constantly use P2P.
Maybe limit P2P to like 30GB a month or something. Drive away all those slowing it down for the rest of us.

I strongly disagree. This is where XNET Gets it right, and everyone else gets it wrong, they treat all data equally and charge it like a toll call.

Other ISP's see data as a problem to manage, XNET see's it as a sales opportunity - if users want to buy a product (Data) when why not sell it to them???

When they do have the capacity, it works perfectly, some months I'm happy to chew through 200GB and pay for it :-)

On other ISP's they have crippled their network so much I actually struggle to use the product I've paid for.

30 gigs is not heavy usage.

And as we all pay for volume (amount of gigs downloaded), it is unfair to restrict heavier users.
And is perhaps a preferred customer.  Creates more $$$.

wonder  when unlimited volume accounts will appear in the future.

   regards,

30Gb is actually heavy use, the vast majority of people would use 10Gb or less. The heavy users are the ones ruin for others, see the Woosh unlimited issues where some (in my opinion selfish) customers were using well in excess of 200GB
