Ramblings from a mysterious lady who's into tech. Warning I may often create zingers.
I'm taking my grumpy self into the shops today to buy a new phone.
Probably a Samsung S21 of some sort.
Is it better to get one directly from VF, or go to a retail store like HN or NL?
Delete cookies?! Are you insane?!

Has anyone got an S20+ specifically the common SM-G986B/DS model purchased locally, or overseas, working with VF WiFi Calling? It's on their compatible list.

How can you tell if a phone is locked out of VF?

If your question relates to whether VF WiFi calling is locked out, I think that the issue relates to the Service provider software version, on a Samsung phone anyway, unless someone can put me right. This can be found in the Software Information menu. In the case of my Galaxy S20+ the original is XSG which points to the UAE. It seems that this prevents download of the VF Carrier software enabling wifi calling. However VoLTE works fine on VF, and WiFi calling worked fine on 2Degrees.

hairy1: We have a NZ sourced S20 Ultra dual sim here which is a no go. Seems hit and miss
Can you check the Settings/About Phone/Software Information/Service Provider software version section.
I believe the last line signifies the service provider information. In my S20+, (originally sold in the UAE territory) it states XSG/XSG,XSG/XSG.
My wifes S20 FE (Definitely 2Degrees supplied) states XNZ/XNZ,XNZ/XNZ (but this is the "F" exynos version that's not yet on Vodafone's compatible list).
I'm not sure if XNZ signifies all NZ providers, 2Degrees, unbranded or something else. I'd be interested in what your one has, and any other owners of S20 series and whether working or not working.
I've done the usual search for software updates, and both running 1st Nov 2021 versions.
We have an NZ sourced 2degrees Samsung S20 Ultra 5G dual sim that doesn't work with wifi calling on Vodafone.
My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.
The internet suggests
VNZ - New Zealand (Vodafone NZ)
TNZ - New Zealand (Telecom NZ)
NZC - New Zealand (2degrees)
Vodafone's "compatible" Samsung S20 range doesn't mention whether Dual SIM (DS) models are included but I have a feeling that most if not all S20's were Dual SIM, and they just haven't made the distinction.
Interesting that @hairy1 's 2Degrees sourced S20 Ultra doesn't work with VF VoWiFi. Is it running Android 11 with the latest Nov 2021 software patch? Would love to get to the bottom of this.

So would I! @MaxineN are you a Vodafone rep? Are you able to perhaps fill in the gaps as to why our S20 Ultra 5G wouldn't be able to use VoWIFI?
Cheers, Matt.

First of all.
No I don't work for any telecommunications company(unfortunate, really want to get into this space because this stuff frankly excites me.)
Second of all.
Without knowing what VFNZ does at their core I couldn't tell you WHY the S20 lineup is being problematic and why there is a delay(Also would love to learn this one day fully). Only someone who works deeply within the mobile device space could tell you.
Third of all. I'm just someone who's tinkered a lot with devices and have gone deep into the rabbit hole that is modem configurations on a few select devices and has a massive interest here.
If I still had my S20+ I would be asking the very same question as you are right now!
