KiwiNZ: Dotcom is taking the piss. He mocking NZ and folks are falling for it, eventually he will get bored and move to Fiji or Columbia.

As for our current PM who will move back overseas once he is no longer in power.

Maybe so. But if in the meantime he and his supporters manage to do some good - even if for the wrong reasons - that's really the best you can hope for from any government. And since the policies he supports align strongly with most of us here in regards to internet, freedom, and so on, there's really no reason not to support him until such time as he includes eating babies for lunch on his list. No politician* thinks any further ahead than the next election anyway, so there's no point holding that against him, if you believe it.

*OK, I can think of one currently serving parliamentarian that I might otherwise vote for if he were to stand in my electorate.

Indeed there is; and the right to not be spied on by your own government is one of them. Something he has a strong opinion about for some vague reason. I'm not interested in his promise of free internet for everyone; clearly that's not going to happen, although my personal opinion on the UFB project is that is bass ackward and the fibre should be going out to the people who are currently going to be 'served' by RBI, rather than into the middle of cities and suburbs where you can already get DSL2+, VDSL, multiple wireless solutions, and also yes possibly fibre.

But as someone with direct experience with having an assault squad sent after him for the alleged crime of maybe making it slightly easier for someone else to copy a DVD, I think he does have something to bring to the table that neither Labour nor National will. They're both gung-ho to double- and triple-down on the surveillance state.

Also it would be exquisitely entertaining to see John Key held hostage to the man he authorised unlawful spying against and tried very hard to have thrown out of the country for allegedly violating laws that even his own members do.

I agree with your surveillance stuff etc but , Kim Dotcom does not really give a toss except where it impacts his nest feathering, he has no interest in the freedom of Kiwi's he does care and only care for Kim Dotcom's freedom.
I will grant him this though he is the master of smoke screens and has an uncanny knack of sucking people into his nursery room games.

So in every respect he is just like any other politician/party with his own agenda and desire to promote that agenda.
There are plenty of other one issue parties/politicians at the moment - why not add another?

I have some concern about recent possible government spying on citizens - more especially when it seems that other governments seem to be granted rights to undertake mass surveillance by our government.

I say good luck to him.

Dotcom is not even a NZ Citizen.
I'm pretty sure one needs to have citizenship in order to start a political party?

Yeah, as far as i see it there is know one else to vote for, so id go for the lesser of the evils, and all these policies when have they ever improved? as far as i see it they have only got worse for us

As someone else said a couple of posts above, it's more of a single-issue party (at least at the moment). And since neither National nor Labour any more different on any of the above than teal vs. cyan it doesn't really make much difference what, if any, policies his party will have, since either way you'll end up with much the same.

None of that stuff really matters under MMP. He can be a single issue party only interested in one specific area.

I'm not a fan, but I do remember being dragged along to some National Party knees-up a few years ago that had free food and drinks and some jazz band (I think it was) playing. Is there a difference that I'm not picking up on?

The party was a PR exercise and they knew full well it would get cancelled. It is illegal to give 'FREE' gifts at a event that relates to elections and they would have known of this. They did it to get people to register who they can then send political info to and to stir people up about the awful laws in NZ.

You may be right but frankly I doubt it. He cancelled after an approach from the electoral commission warning of the illegality of the party. Are you suggesting that they were in on the plot? If not, how could KDC rely on them to intervene? They could just as well have sat back and waited until after the party took place and then prosecuted.

In any case, that is irrelevant, what really counts is the number of people who applied for tickets.

Not much in the way of policy, but a legion of pensioners who no nothing apart from 'vote for Winston and his party'.....

Much like Dotcom, only replace;

'Pensioners' with 'those that just want to stick it to the man'

and

'Vote for Winston and his party' with 'vote for Dotcoms party'.
