We are in a global market place so being offshore controlled is not a negative. This PR gives me the feeling that Spark are nervous.

It most likely means that Skyofones profits will now go off shore to the UK 51% shareholder..

Yep, thats exactly what the merger presentation says. Thanks for interpreting the dividend policy for us.

So once meger is done what will the call wait times be like?

Hopefully Sky stays on serperate number, and don't have to ring a Vodafone number. At present my calls get answered in under 5 minutes with Sky, where phone compainies seem to think nothing of putting people on hold for 40 minutes plus.

I put services on and off when I wish to use them, no point having movies on if no time to watch, can use remote to put services on but not to cancel, have to ring by voice for that.

I haven't been with Vodafone but know many people that have had problems with them, billing errors and all sorts of muck ups.

Would rather Sky was in charge of Vodafone, but see what happens.

That is the same with very large percentage of corporations operating in NZ now.

Just recieved an email from Sky.

It said the proposed merger needs approvals that aren't expected until End of 2016, so nothing changes until then.

The way you pay your bills and they ways you can watch will remain the same.

So be a while before anything happens.

It'd have to be a hostile bid - and a significant premium to the VOD/SKY transaction. Not even Spark is that stupid.

Possibly get serious with a Sports offering? Much is tied up, but a number of minor sports to begin with. But if Voda doesnt hobble sport for us non Voda users too much, BAU?

Lightbox Sport didnt renew EPL. Lightbox Sport didnt even bid for the NRL rights. Actions speak.

It'll be BAU at least until the paperwork is done - end of CY16. Then there will be a 100 day action plan (assuming it gets approved). Nothing will change until mid 2017 I'm guessing.

I'm a Vodafone cable customer planning to switch to fibre next year. But we've just signed up to Sky on Vodafone with free Sports for 12 months. The TV switch was easy because we already had the Vodafone TV box - we didn't lose any of our old recordings and all our booked recordings still worked apart from those for Prime because we were switched to Prime HD.

It is hard for me to say that "I like Vodafone" given many years of service and support issues. In the old days it was the phone support wait times that were horrendous (inherited from Telstra Clear) but that has changed. For two years, we are usually picked up in less than a minute - it was 30 seconds yesterday - and almost always within five minutes. There have been issues with cable congestion but since the upgrades last year we've avoided that problem. Pricing is competitive. Uptime is very good.

All the improvements and a more consistent history of good service mean that I'm much more optimistic that the merger will provide us with new benefits within six months. This doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of room for improvement. I'd still like better integration of the cable systems with the rest of Vodafone but it all works fine for us. I'd also like the Vodafone TV box to work better and that seems more likely now Sky expertise and/or technology can be shared.

The competitive element supports my optimism. We already get a $10 discount for being in a Vodafone cable area. We might see a further discount from competition now Sky and cable can be combined more effectively. Spark does seem rather defensive although it is difficult to be confidently bullish when nobody knows exactly what is likely to happen. That's why my reading of their statement might be wrong.

Just a pity that it will not be a NZ company any longer. Too much money here gets shipped off shore in the form of profit these days..
