Another "New Outlook" brain dead moment. One of my colleagues accidentally added a common misspelling of a word to the dictionary, so the spell check no longer picks up this common typo. And to date no one has been able to work out how to remove it from the dictionary.

Try file.options.mail.editor options.custom dictionaries. Select your dictionary and then choose edit word list. Usually when adding words they get added to the custom dictionary.

Thanks, I will get him to try on Monday. However, not holding out hope as this is "new" Outlook and completely different to "old" Outlook...

New outlook and outlook classic in my view are not the same product. New outlook does not have a file menu (that I could find), so access to the dictionaries doesn’t seem to exist. One can add a word to the dictionary, but not remove it.

In classic outlook the option will work - the roaming and custom dictionaries are available (these don’t seem to be used by new outlook) and they can also be accessed from other office apps such as word.

I don’t use ‘new outlook’ outside of periodic testing of features as I use a lot of the custom business functionality that classic outlook has.

What I do is log a bug in ‘new outlook’ and explain why the missing feature is important. I also suggest the name ‘new outlook’ is confusing (from a consumer vs business audience perspective).

These 2 help articles don't mention editing the custom dictionary: Check grammar, spelling, and more in Word for the web, Check spelling before sending a message

As stated above, this applies to the classic Outlook.

Good luck. Let us know if you find the correct option. Maybe also try to edit the custom dictionary listed in Word. AFAIK, all Office apps share the same dictionary. Alternatively, look at the Editor settings in MS Edge. You might have to use the MS Editor browser extension.

AFAIK, all Office apps share the same dictionary.

If that was true, then new Outlook and old Outlook (which are both Office apps you see) should share the same dictionary.

But I don't think that is true anymore. Possibly the old apps share the same "old" dictionary. However, the new apps (including the web-based versions) do not as far as I know -- we can only hope the new editions shares a dictionary but I'm not holding my breath.

How about just brain dead design? I bought a Quell fire extinguisher from Mitre 10. When I went to mount it, I discovered that the latch holding it in place is around the back, where you have to stick a finger to pull it out. No problem when you are calm and have the time to figure it out but not good in a panicked emergency. This is just stupid. The old extinguisher just hung on a hook, much better, but even the latching strap on this one could have just as easily fastened in front. Maybe they were trying to save 10 cents or something on the manufacturing cost. This is just stupid and I will be careful to look for another brand next time.

You may want to write to Quell and let them know about this, since it's a safety issue and will affect others as well. Just looked at ours, it has two easily-removed clips on the front that you flip across to detach it.

I will check it again but I didn't see any other way to do it when I installed it. I was surprised because it doesn't really made sense. Having the latch as you describe is how it should be.

I just checked mine again. The latch is around to the side, folds behind the cylinder when closed, and is almost impossible to get it when needed. There is no way to change this. Really dumb. I will take a photo if and when I feel like it.

Edit: It doesn't look like the one in your image at all, which does sit in the middle and makes perfect sense.

I accidentally fat-fingered some adjacent keys and marked all my emails as "read" in Outlook. I use the read/unread functionality as an action list - if an email remains unread it requires me to do something. So now I don't know what items are outstanding.

Could be a worse time of year... I'll just do nothing and if it's important I'll get chased about it in the new year.

That's pretty close to the ideal way to deal with emails received during a break. On return, <CTRL-A><DEL>.

If it was urgent at the time, then it's been dealt with.

If it's still urgent, they'll be in touch again soon.

If it's neither of those, then it's not important anyway.
