 Hi,

The NSP are in the process of copying each server to a completely new
box as they could not find the fault that caused the crash. each copy
takes approximately 1.5 hours so the first one should be back on line
in about an hour and the last in about 6.

Regards
Kate.

Donquixote2u:
sbiddle: Out of curiosity what attracted all of you people to this service? Just the dirt cheap pricing?

well yes!   I cant really justify paying 100x what I do now, as SteveON does, and for a couple of years or so it has been good value.

The lack of telephone support IS a concern, though it's obvious that for $4 or so a month we cant really expect much in the way of support.

I guess outages like this do tend to make us wonder whether a few more bux per month might give us a better handle on the situations like this, though.

He is probably paying not using shared hosting, as others have pointed out.

I was just interested to know the reason. There are much bigger companies like GoDaddy  that obviously have their haters but you can pay ~US$4 per month and get a much more professional company for shared hosting.

gareth279: I have a site hosted at www.webhostingnz.com, it appears the site is down at the moment.  Anyone else with this web host?  If so do you know how long it has been down and whether it will come back?

I think it is a case of you get what you pay for. I believe they are a brand of Aotea, which was on Fair Go twice over the last few years. If you saw that, they are based in England not NZ.

this is interesting - so far I have indeed been getting what I paid for, which was a very cheap host that until recent weeks has been very reliable. What was the thrust of the Fair Go investigation?

Just in case,  it looks like a couple of us would be interested to find out if there are any low-cost (e.g. around $100/yr)  alternatives with a LOCAL presence

I used Kiwiwebhost a while back, but moved due to their not out-of-date php and mysql, plus I needed more disk, but they were fairly reliable and communicative.

someone suggested domains4less - I'd be interested in feedback on that one, too.

My page has been down since 11th May about mid day, so I'm not very impressed, this has happened once before, but was up again in a few hours, and ironically no one will reply to mey emails.
I see their page is now up and running again. Hope fully we will hear from someone soon.
I dont think I will be using them for much longer

I have one out of four websites working.  (of course its the LEAST important one) ...at least with that everything is actually working (shock horror).  As this is the second time the sites have been offline for 48 odd hours thanks to webhostingnz...I think I'll have a look at some of the US servers!  I hear Lunarpages  have some good deals.

What are the chances of getting a refund from these idiots?

I've got email and a website with islands.co.nz and my website is still 'off the air' since around 6pm Wednesday.  My website is registered through Affordable Domains and their website was down as well.  I contacted the Domain Name Commissioner to check what was happening.

Both Islands and Affordable Domains websites are up though Islands are not communicating.  I'm trying to get the UDAI Code from Web Hosting (Island).
