This is pretty off-topic, but could you name me an example? As someone who grew up in a 3rd world country I haven't come across any place in New Zealand that remotely matches the description '3rd world'.

While "ZA" might be the internet naming convention, in real life I think RSA is probably the 'most correct' acronym?

Unfortunately ISPs don't get much of a heads-up about what areas have oversubscription until they apply for the service, unless Chorus have already improved on that. You need to understand that "port waiter" means that the equipment is full but there won't be new investment because its becoming obsolete in a couple of years. We are in a transition to fibre and thats the downside.

Time to find a new industry!

Nope, that has an exchange so you can at-least get Dialup, so not third world since you've still got access to communicate with the rest of the world :)

It is a pretty sexy exchange too.

No ADSL at all? Interesting. I know they get it in Punakaiki (probably with a few less people) using Nokia equipment in the exchange, apparently (Nokia made DSLAM's?).

They sure did! The Nokia equipment predated Conklins, it's still floating around here and there. If my memory serves me right Invers still has some Nokia equip too!

Also, the Nokia M11-22 modem is the most robust modem I've ever experienced in my life. Would ignore almost all errors and never drop DSL unless there was a major fault against the line.

Hey everyone there's been an advance in this situation. So today we were due for our 5gb per month data stick that vodafone agreed to supply us with in the mean time until we get some sort of internet. We didn't recieve the stick so we called up to ask what was going on. The girl on the phone said that Chorus was now upgrading the ports in our area so we can't get our homeline or broadband until that is complete and the stick is still on the way. The upgrade is planned to be finished next month.

Now after being told all this time that there is no way we can get broadband, longest someone has been waiting and still is, is 120 days and even chorus themselves said in an email that we have to sit tight until the area is upgraded in 2015 or 2016, this is very suspicious news... The girl on the phone said that all someone had to do was talk to the technical team or something and we could have been told that the area is undergoing an addition of new ports but no one has bothered to find out.
Now I'm asking you guys on here, can someone find out if this news is true? If someone can find out of the upgrade is going on near Fields Parade, Oteha Valley, Albany that would be greatly appreciated.

It probably has credit to buy the addons when data angel cuts it off.
We cant pre load 5GB of data (well we can, When it hits the limit it just keeps going without notice and then you get billed like $500)
So they apply a credit and just purchase bundles from data angel until its gone.
If there is no credit sitting there. Some one broke it.
