randomusername: Cool I've PMed you now.   The absolute winners at vodafone have sent us a 1gb data stick instead of the promised 5gb. Hooray.

PM me the Mobile number for the stick and I'll take a look, I'm here until 11.

Andib I've PMed you.

TimA thanks for your insight, hopefully it'll be resolved easily :)

Honestly I hope Chorus are actually at work in our neighbourhood installing more ports. It'll be great!

bales: if possible run cable from neighbours router to your place and share cost.

I have just helped a friend with this exact issue. The garden shed had power so put a switch in there and ran cable from house to shed, and from neighbour to the shed.

Presume a short term solution so just ran cable along base of fences and held it down with weedmat pegs.

A couple years ago I did a farmer friend with a pair of 5ghz wireless recievers at 1 km distance.

In fact farmer groups are doing this now, with one group of 9 farmers jumping of a farmer by the main road, and going up a valley for 5kms. They put in their own tower. For a farmer this is a doddle.
The main bottle neck is when the kids  come home for holidays. It grinds to a halt!

So after some crazy to and fro'ing with vodafone we finally got some internet sorted in the form of data sticks. The first data stick we were sent wasn't activated or something and didn't exist, someone literally forgot to do it before they sent it out. Then we had to call up again and be put through to so many different people before someone finally said we need to go to the vodafone store and quote this number we got given and they'll sort everything out. Finally got a data stick and we're online but it's only 1GB and slow as hell, but can't complain right? No news about whether chorus is actually doing work on adding more ports on our street or not though. All I can take from this is that vodafone is helpful and so ready to take our money, but damn is it a nightmare trying to sort out any issues you have with them. I have had 3 friends quit working after they've had enough of the customer service side of things there due to the poor organisation. They weren't kidding!

I can vouch for that - and I worked at TCL Faults.

Something weird happened today. Some guy came to the house from Chorus to connect us to VDSL, spent over an hour at the house and working on the wall sockets. Then went outside to connect at the cabinet but then came back and said Vodafone cancelled the order. Then when we called vodafone they said there has been a mistake and the guy came to the wrong house and we're put back on a waiting list. Unbelievable situation, the amount of mistakes that have been made are ridiculous.

On the plus side, you've just had $150 of wiring work done.   But yes, shocking.

Found it.

Looks like its still a port waiter for a VDSL port. They didnt move the queue around. That i think you are the only one waiting by the looks of it.

Cheers

I think they've always been able to get ADSL but wanted VDSL which by the sounds of it was a port waiter probably for a linecard install.
