As suspected. Upload got worse. Not amused.

Edit: Fixed links. DLM has also kicked in after a resync. From 0 delay/INP up to 8/3ms delay and 0.5/0 INP.

its not that bad though, but kinda to be expected.

i dont think chorus took into account those who wanted better uploads over higher downloads

DLM has finally finished doing what it does this morning (hopefully). There were resyncs every other day for around a week. Latency wasn't dropping (until today) but SNR was bouncing around.

Sync can't get much better than that on Ikanos!

@Jase2985 , read this... Chorus didn't do any of this because people wanted higher download speeds.

Here's the headline point for you:

"New Zealand is currently the only country which uses the 997 VDSL band plan creating a high risk of New Zealand becoming an orphan in a world which has migrated to the 998 VDSL band plan"

@Talkiet i know and understand that

just that some value upload more so over download, so this band plan change has made their connection worse in their eyes

The Chorus upgrades are scheduled to be finished Saturday morning. By a series of bits of bad luck I am personally scheduled to literally be in the last batch of ISAMs done so when mine is done then they are all done (in theory).

I'm away on Saturday so won't be able to confirm if I've been converted until Sat night.

Cheers - N

All I can say is it's quite disappointing

VDSL Band Plans The 998 VDSL band plan is more asymmetric, meaning higher download speeds (at the expense of lower upload speeds) compared to speed achieved under the 997 band plans. Customers could expect to see faster download speeds if NZ transitioned to the 998 band plan with little impact on upload speed as the upload speed of the 997 if limited by profile to 10Mbps.

(little impact my butt I lost 3Mbps up and considering I only had 10Mbps to start with this shouldn't have gotten any worse than it was already.
...)

The most widely supported plan is 998ADE which is actually the least symmetrical. Note that 997 is asymmetric, just less so than 998. Given that most countries are using 998ADE, symmetric services provided must be within the bounds of what can be delivered via 998ADE.

Agree... In individual cases it will be quite disappointing. On the whole however it's delivering significant improvements and gets us out of an orphaned technology hole before it bit us. There really weren't any sensible alternative and yes a few people are going to have a reduction in performance.

Your specific comment about your line "shouldn't have gotten any worse" is simply wrong. It is working as designed and expected that some lines will drop some upload speed - even some that synced at 10Mbps before the upgrade. That is NOT unexpected.

Cheers - N

Anyone else seeing lots of DSL instability after upgrading? My internet has been atrocious over the past 3 days, I have seen according to my ISP 20 spontaneous loss of syncs in 24 hours which has seen my line go from 65/12 to 70/30 then 69/14 69/16 69/19 68/21!

Some of my outages look more like ppp drops which last a matter of 5 seconds. ( I know because RDP requires a continuous stream).

Yeah I had quite a lot of instability with snr margins going a bit crazy.  It has settled down now though.

Although I just lost sync once or twice.  SNR margin fluctuated quite a lot.  And I still haven't shifted to DLM-1 :(

I suspect it's partially because heaps of lines changed and there's still some learning going on and that it'll improve in a few days time. (I've been looking at my SNR graphs way more than normal; but haven't experienced issues, but my line is pretty good)

If it continues to be unstable maybe you should log a fault with your ISP.

It really might just be noise while lines adjust, and it may go back to INP 0 and drop back to DLM-1 in one go or with some more 4 am syncs :)

I've been on 998 for a few weeks now, i would have thought all the automated fiddling with my lines would be done by now?
