Thanks for all of your input.
Looks like I need a chorus insider to get any common sense answer as to why this cabinet remains BUBA only.
Cant see why the information is so sensitive. It just frustrates all those concerned.

Spoke with Ultimate, no 4G via VF. I am zoned semi-rural, and the cabinet (cnr bruntwood and tauwhare) is in the full rural zone but is EUBA with VDSL. Surely both are under RBI.

Either your cabinet is a ASAM (ATM Connected) ADSL1 speeds or an ISAM (Ethernet Connected) ADSL2+ speeds. All ASAMs (and Conklins) are part of the BUBA network. ISAMs can be connected to both BUBA and EUBA. As part of RBI Chorus are upgrading (some) ASAMs to ISAMs. As part of that process Chorus move you from being BUBA ATM connected to BUBA Ethernet connected. They first connect you at a 7mb speed, then over a week or so move you to 20mb.

At that point you are still on the BUBA network, but your speeds should vastly improve and you are now getting ADSL 2 speeds rather than ADSL1.

At this point it's up to your ISP to move you from BUBA to EUBA if the ISP chooses to do so. Some are better than others and the whole process is somewhat convoluted where you need to be disconnected and reconnected for a very long a complicated number of reasons.

However, if you moved to a new ISP then you would be typically reconnected back on as a EUBA rather than BUBA unless the new ISP was doing something very silly.

The whole copper network is physically separate from the UFB/GPON network so just because there is a copper cabinet close or if a trunk fibre cable runs past your house means completely nothing in regards to if you can get UFB/GPON.

Since asking to tap into a trunk fibre is like when you have a 200 lane motorway running past your house and now you would like your own private off-ramp. Building that costs serious money (hence the 5 figures you have been quoted!)

why do you need 4g? whats wrong with 3g? surely there is coverage for that where you are, and it will still offer significantly more speed than what you currently get.

at the end of the day, a cabinet costs a lot of money to be upgraded, and there is not enough money at the moment to upgrade all cabinets. the ones that are getting upgraded have been identified as more of a priority than others for what ever reason, and there is no much you can do about it short of stumping up the money to upgrade it yourself ( probably in the 6 figures)

its just how it is. and its one of the sacrifices you make when you choose to live ruraly.

There is a lot of 4G coverage surrounding your area, so certainly is maybe possible. Anyway, as I said get in touch if you would like to get his checked out further.

As i am not far from the cabinet, sync rates are fine. However, service is unusable 4-10pm due to back-haul capacity. Would be interesting to see whether chorus do indeed meet the 32kb/s rate during these periods.
If 3G was only option, i would just use my phone, which i do anyway if i need to get work done.
As a logical person, all i need is chorus to provide a logical answer. Not just 'go look at the map'. Its not exactly a commercial secret when you have no competition!

What is so hard for chorus to say either;
1. You are RBI, so cabinet wont be touched, so cellular is your only option going forward, or prey your local council gets a slice of the rural UFB funding.
2. Cabinet was not upgraded due to X, it is tentatively scheduled for Y.
3. The fibre capability will or will not be available to other residents due to X.

I hope you realise chorus owe you nothing. You have no relationship with them at all you deal with your isp and they deal with chorus.

You seem to be under them impression that you should have this information, when most if what you want isn't publicly available.

The chorus map has enough info on it to tell you when things will be upgraded. If you want more that that you are probably SOOL.

Have you ever tried communicating with VF? You obviously must use an ISP that cares about their customers.
Who is it, as i would love to experience it.
