Have you tried other speed test servers?

As I said in my last post, using the Orcon servers, the speed is very average, even though I'm with Orcon.

Using other servers provided the true speeds that I would have expected. And thus gives me proof that my connection is capable of the speeds advertised.

totally understand. but if I'm only getting 200mbp from a 900mbp plan, then i might as well use a 200mbp plan. I used to be able to get around 200mbp download on my 200mbp plan.

I posted some speedtests in the thread linked higher up, IMO I think the problem is the Auckland speedtest server that Vocus has is very underpowered as I can get way faster results to other NZ servers like the ones hosted at ufone and 2degrees.

What happens when you try fast.com ?

i tried other servers, but usually those are even slower if not the same.

fast.com is this,

yes, i have tried other servers, but the maximum i could get is perhaps 400mbps. Does any good speed with third party router? I'm thinking whether it could be a router issue?

It would be truly fascinating to know what percentage of NZ's internet traffic is just from people on Gigabit connections running constant speedtests 24/7 just to check their speeds. I know it's been a massive issue in the past with all the UniFi kit out there saturating speedtest servers.

I'm with slingshot. Never seem to have any speed issues with default supplied modem and gigabit switch.

It still doesn’t explain why Orcon users from Wellington can’t seem to get gigabit speeds from any of the VocusgroupNZ servers but when we test from servers such as ACSData Wellington and 2degrees Auckland we can get gigabit speeds.

Not too sure if there something wrong in the VocusgroupNZ servers that affect Wellington users. If I can get gigabit speeds from 2degrees Auckland server shouldn’t I be able to get gigabit speeds at both VocusgroupNZ Auckland and Christchurch servers. It doesn’t make sense why this happens.

because the servers probably have a slow link to them and people are constantly hammering them to check their speed.

What would be causing that slow link with Wellington customers?

@Jase2985 I think those customers who don’t live near the Auckland and Christchurch VocusgroupNZ server are affected.
