Kinda derailing this thread, but their helpdesk utilise this as one of the first checks, and it is also mentioned on their help pages (linespeed.nz which is the 2 vocus speedtest servers in NZ). When I have tested and compared it to testing to the vocus servers from a non vocus connection, the non vocus connection recieves a faster result. I've posted these results in my thread about the strange issuse but just did another comparison below.

@nickng77 - unfortunately Orcon won't (and fair enough) provide too much support if you're not using their gear. Unfortunately you might need to ask them to send one out and then carry out some further diagnostics.

I usually don't care much for speed test results, however when Linetest is specifically mentioned on Orcon's website to test the speed of your connection, it automatically chooses ONLY the Vocus servers in AK or CH.
As a few of the Vocus customers (myself included) have proven that we can't get anywhere near the expected speed results to Vocus' own servers, it would seem like there is a genuine issue with our internet speeds, when in reality there isn't by testing to other servers using speedtest.net which give the full speed results one would expect. I've tested using various methods including broswer-based (MacOS & Windows), Linux CLI, and Apps.
However, Mr Joe Average probably isn't tech savvy enough to know that he can choose different servers on another speedtest website, and end up calling customer support and complaining that his speeds are poor and thinking his ISP is somehow not delivering a service that he's paying for.
Internet speed tests are always to be taken with a grain of salt, and I only use them for very rough troubleshooting if required, and I make sure to test against a bunch of servers all over the place to get a more accurate picture as to what's going on.

I would like to know the answer too. I also want to know if the folks that don’t live in Auckland and Christchurch if the quality of Vocus service decreases since they don’t have a VocusgroupNZ speed test server in Wellington and other parts of New Zealand and if this impacts on us in terms of uploading/download information from overseas services e.g Sydney will be slower due to not having a Wellington VocusgroupNZ speed test server.
Apologies if I've made the wrong assumption, I think hes asking why is it so important that you to get line speed to the vocus servers
Not being able to get line speed to the vocus speed test server has zero impact on your connections performance nor does it indicate a wider problem with vocus's network, I believe its something wrong with the server
if you can get gig to other servers its an indication there is nothing wrong with your connection or their network, if you couldn't get gig to any server at all their *could* be a problem with your connection or their network
I only get 500~ to vocus speed test servers and 950/500 to others, Im with orcon and I downloaded battlefield last night and it completely maxed out my connection, it blew my mind.. first time ive actually seen the connection fully saturate
