Hi Guys,

I will find out the root cause of this issue from the techs later today, seems to be isolated only to the T1050 and Magic TV Units but nationwide so will investigate and get back to you.   Freeview Forum getting queries too.

Thanks for your patience

I know of three m3600's with both the no names on recordings and random reboot from stand by issues.
This is where a forum like this pays dividends as we all now know that it is not our hardware at fault.
More likely Freeview making changes with the epg causing the recorded programs not to have names. Hopefully they will fix this in the next 3 days so we don't have to put up with it until mid or late January when the holidays are over or worse it's a permanent change that has left us all with certified recorders that are for all intensive purposes unless.
The rebooting problem fits the same category as it's been going on for at least a year now and it was not a hard ware problem with all of our magic 3600's but clearly a change by Freeview that causes the issue. So much for doing the right thing and buying what was hailed as the best Certified recorder at the time.

The MagicTV seems to save the program name and program information in (at least) 2 places. The first is embedded in the actual recorded program  (.TS) file, and the second is in a small 4k .TV file that I think is used to build the database of recorded program listings.

I am running the hacked firmware with the web server. If I look at the .TV file of a program with the correct name showing in the program listing (using Notepad or other similar text editor), I can see the program name and information in clear text. If I look at the .TV file of a program recorded this week, with no name showing in the recorded program listing, where I would expect to see the program name and information, there is nothing but a jumble of characters.

eg: From an earlier recorded program that has the name (Fair Go):

141117195700_001.tv                                                                                                               ªÀ       @   <œiT   âpT|˜
engFair Go Season Final: Celebrate the best and worst ads of the year as voted by Fair Go viewers in a special LIVE episode of Fair Go.  engTV ONE chiTV ONE

From a program this week that does not have the program name (should be The Graham Norton Show):

141219203700_003.tv                                                                                                               šU      H  œÕ“T
engÌŸ’$±GàMëú¶ ÞÙâ5bÛÔ 2¾Jã%víe²×©ƒ»¿'Ïc\Dñ%gT Ïm»˜ƒÉˆ{ûÆgÀæ—¾¤'cÕ¶
açžµYáæ¯j;¼*¡¯x¹7ˆ<ö”]ᾌàûbîñxÎ>Ó¼Ðx‰€Ô  engTV3

If I search in the corresponding .TS file, I can find the same information and it is not scrambled for programs that are recorded this week.

That will be why the program listing is corrupt, but selecting Program Info when playing a program shows the program name.

Hopefully this will help in identifying what has changed and is causing the problem.

wigwam3: That sounds easy, but I don't think the MTV3600 has a manual rename function.

A new firmware is made to allow rename of recorded programmes.

Magic TV MTV3600TD Firmware 6.08 beta:
http://www.magictv.com/nz/downloads/mtv3600_6_08NZbeta.zip

This is the MTV3700TD firmware 6.07 beta 6 back ported to MTV3600TD, so it has:

- Add iPhone/iPad/Android remote control app support (the MTV3600TD needs to be connected to the WiFi router as the mobile device does; if the WiFi router has a feature to "separate" a WiFi device from other devices it needs to be turned off)
- Add rename function for recorded programmes
- Add audio delay setting
- Add built-in volume adjustment (Settings -> Audio -> Volume; can also be controlled via remote control if the volume buttons have not been programmed)
- Add graphic prompt for radio channels
- Add favourite channels
- Add support for XBox 360 and MCE remote control (needs to be enabled by using Magic TV remote or the remote app first)
- An experimental change for the wakeup reboot issue

In case there is a serious issue with the 6.x firmware, please downgrade to

Magic TV MTV3600TD Firmware 3.20:
http://www.magictv.com/nz/downloads/mtv3600_3_20NZ.zip

Change List from 3.18:
- Support EIT decompression
- Fix a booking issue in Nelson area (same fix as 3.19 beta 7)

** IMPORTANT: Switching between 3.x <-> 6.x firmware REQUIRES a factory reset after upgrade.

** Thanks 2lostkiwis for testing various firmware.

Does the MTV3600TD Firmware 6.08 feature the 2-minute skip (or was it a 3-minute skip)? Or would this be available via the remote control app?

All Freeview-compliant devices must not support this style of ad skipping.

Here's a firmware for the MTV3600TD customers who wish to rename the programme names garbage.  In addition, it includes a final attempt at fixing the reboot at wakeup issue.  A Customer  has been testing this firmware over the weekend and has not seen the crash yet.

Magic TV MTV3600TD Firmware 6.08 beta:
http://www.magictv.com/nz/downloads/mtv3600_6_08NZbeta.zip

This is the MTV3700TD firmware 6.07 beta 6 back ported to MTV3600TD, so it has:

I've installed 6.08NZ firmware and managed to name one of the programs with missing name successfully.  I don't know about the support for an Android Remote Control App, because I cannot locate the App.  Looked on Google Play and the MagicTv website and then Googled for any reference to an App and this thread is pretty much the only hit I got.  Any hint as to where it is hiding would be appreciated.

I think this is the link. I searched for "Magic" and "TV", not "MagicTV". There are a few other options that also come up.

Thanks RingoTb.  I was looking for Magic 3600 and nothing like it came up.  I'll try that tomorrow.  I am impressed that firmware updates providing additional functionality are released 4+ years after I bought my MTV3600.

Did the 6.08 beta firmware upgrade. Renamed a recorded program. It's all looking good - is it me or are the picture and sound better too?

The fast forward and reverse are not good.  Much more looping at 2x and 4x reverse (going back then forwards), and stalling then jumping minutes going forward.  I will try it for another couple of nights to get a better fix on the conditions, but based on tonight's performance will probably revert to 3.18
