6.08 didn't work for me.  I did the upgrade and then the box rebooted itself.  I got the "Welcome to MagicTV" message for about 30 seconds and then the screen went blank.  If my Sony TV doesn't receive any input from the selected input then it displays the input name in the corner, and this is what happened.  The display on the MagicTV box was working ok and showing that it was showing live TV.  I could change channels and such and everything would be shown correctly on the front display but nothing was being output to my TV.

I turned the MagicTV off and then flipped the power switch on the back of it and waited a minute.  Turned back on and exactly the same thing happened (I get the welcome message and then output to the TV stops even though the MagicTV box appears to be operating).

I did this three or four more times, each time with the same result.

I loaded 3.20 onto a flash drive and did an emergency flash and that works fine, all functions restored.

I suppose I should try 6.08 again...

I must say that this isn't the first time that I've had the MagicTV power up and got the welcome message and then nothing.  It has happened a handful of times in the past, but usually turning it completely off at the wall and restarting is enough to get it going again.

In case 6.08 beta does not work for you, you may try this 3.21, which is the same as 3.20 but with a modification for the wakeup-reboot issue:

Actually that happened to me too ... No output to TV, just as you describe. I turned it off a couple of times and then on the third restart it came right and has been fine since.

Thanks for that.

I tried upgrading from 3.20 to 3.21 but got the same result as when I tried to upgrade to 6.08.

The upgrade appeared to go ok and then the MagicTV box restarted and I got the Welcome message for about 15 seconds and then the screen goes blank and my TV reports no input.  I tried turning completely off at the wall and restarted five times and each time was the start.

A rescue flash back to 3.20 got everything going again.

Yup, usually restarting it makes it work again, but in this case I tried five times before giving up and restoring 3.20 which worked straight away.

I even unplugged all my other HDMI devices in case something was interfering but that didn't help.

I've been running firmware 3.20 for a couple of weeks now. I have had the following issue occur about 4 or 5 times in those 2 weeks:

When turning on the Magic TV, the video and audio outputs fail. The unit sometimes comes up with a picture of the live broadcast that is frozen, but generally it comes up with just a black screen. I can change channels, and get the channel information bar come up to display the info but the actual picture remains black. I can bring up the MagicTV list of recorded programs, view it and cycle through to choose one. When that program starts to play, all there is is a black screen with no audio. FF scanning does not work, but if I use the 10 minute jump, I can advance through the program in 10 minute intervals. The playback timebar comes up, and I can see the playback indicator position advancing 10 minutes each time the skip button is pressed. Other than that, the screen remains black.

Turning the MagicTV off using the power button on the remote does not work, but turning the MagicTV off and then on at the power switch on the back resets everything.

I have just upgraded to 3.21 and will see if that has a similar issue.

(I will also post this message in the other MagicTV thread discussing Missing program names).

ChrisNZL: Does the MTV3600TD Firmware 6.08 feature the 2-minute skip (or was it a 3-minute skip)? Or would this be available via the remote control app?

All Freeview-compliant devices must not support this style of ad skipping.

wigwam3: The fast forward and reverse are not good.  Much more looping at 2x and 4x reverse (going back then forwards), and stalling then jumping minutes going forward.  I will try it for another couple of nights to get a better fix on the conditions, but based on tonight's performance will probably revert to 3.18

Seems like a bit of catch 22 here - The fast forward/rewind doesn't work very well (in any version of the firmware, but especially in 6.08) at all, but a 10 minute jump forward/back virtually forces you to use it in order to find a particular scene you want to resume playing at. A skip forward (say 1 minute) and a shorter skip back (say 10 secs) allows you reliably locate a scene in a reasonable time without using the fast forward/rewind.

Also, isn't a reliable fast forward/backward a Freeview compliance requirement?

Look forward to getting some fixes coming up but I note that other users are reporting similar issues with the 6.08 firmware that I reported in the 5.07 beta release

Re 6.08 beta, also having the problems reported for fast forward and rewind. Three presses of FF get it to 8x speed, but then it seems to stop responding to the remote and it takes several presses to get to 16x. Rewind gets stuck at 2x most of the time.

I've been running firmware 3.21 for just over a week. In that time I have had one lock-up of the MagicTV. After it started, it was displaying the broadcast program and playing the audio, but all remote functions did not work. I could not change channel, could not bring up the recorded program list, and I could not power the MagicTV off using the remote Power Toggle button. I had to switch the MagicTV off at the power switch to reset it. This was the first time I have had this type of lock-up and I have used all the firmwares from ver 3.07 onwards.

Overall though, firmware 3.21 has been much better than ver 3.20 (1 lock-up using 3.21 compared to about 4 lock-ups using 3.20 for the same time period).

Please try this 6.08beta2 firmware and see if its behavior is closer to firmware 3.18/3.20/3.21 regarding FF:

** IMPORTANT: Switching between 3.x <-> 6.x firmware REQUIRES a factory reset after upgrade.

I just installed 6.08 NZ b2. The difference was apparent straight away ... Now it responds to each press, ff and rewind. Brilliant. Will let you know if anything else crops up. Thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated!

Ditto here.  FF and REW still pretty agricultural but they always have been.  First impression is very much better than 6.08 Beta thanks.
