Did your package require a signature or was it just left at the door?

The FedEx man called my desk from reception, and I had to go out and sign for the phone. You'll probably find that most (if not all) FedEx deliveries require signatures.

Hmm, I thoght mine required a signature but maybe not?? Being Royal Mail, pretty sure last year it was left on my doorstep too...doesn't have any note of the signature down the bottom(like Couriered items)

I see several references to Royal Mail here. When I bought my GS from Clove last year, I had the choice of shipping via DHL or Royal Mail. I ordered a GS2 from Clove over the weekend and the shipping choices were DHL or "Airsure Tracked Mail (3-7 days)".

Are Royal Mail and Airsure the same? Are people here getting current shipments via Royal Mail because I can't see that as an option on the Clove site.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I haven't had much of a play with the GPS, mostly because I'm still at work and our office is like a giant Faraday cage. It's impossible to get any kind of GPS signal inside, even if you're only a metre or 2 from the windows.

As for the quickness of the phone... Let me put is this way: if you had to describe how this phone runs, the word "slow" would never ever enter your head. The most I've been able to get the phone to slow down was when I left the camera app open, and the screen turned off. When I unlocked the phone there was about a 2 second freeze while the phone was attempting to get a preview picture from the camera. Other than that... nothing.

How's this for an example: I opened up YouTube in the browser and was playing a 720p movie trailer. I could scroll around the page and zoom in/out without any hint of lag whatsoever, and the video didn't skip a single frame. Smoooooooth!

I must've spoke to the same guy Ambrose_1. Just phoned 0800-478-287, option 1 and spoke to a guy who said they operate a skeleton staff over the weekend and probably won't get to it until tonight. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can arrange payment.

You may be wrong about the GST and Mobicity profiting from the transaction.

If its a GST registered company here it collects the GST from you on your purchase and offsets that against the GST it pays Customs. It owes the balance to the IRD.

Sure, it shouldn't be falsely claiming the value of the phone.

Why doesn't anyone buy from Expansys?

Cheers, Stephen

Mobicity does not have a real presence here in NZ. It is run from Hong Kong and has a call centre in Aussie. There are local numbers, but they just redirect to the call centre.

Because they're an overseas company, they're not registered for GST, so if anybody gets stung for GST it'll be the customer.

I don't think anybody has bothered with Expansys because they're fairly expensive. They're certainly not as cheap as the likes of Clove. And they don't pay the GST component either - their site explicitly says that you'll need to pay for tax and Customs charges when the package enters the country.

Yeah same thing, Airsure is what royal mail call their international tracked service.

I ordered mine from Expansys and it's just been shipped.
Is the GST/Customs clearance easy when ordered from them?
I do have the importer (i think it's called Casper) code btw.

Do you think that I should wait until it's released here in NZ because the handset may cost $999 by itself, but if I bought it from Clove, pay the shipping & likely tax... it will probably end up being $1300 or so.

I seriously doubt you'll see this phone for under $1000 in the next six months in NZ. Let's face it, Telecom still have the Galaxy S for $999, and Vodafone have got theirs down to $849. Vodafone also have the Nexus S at $1149, so I seriously doubt you'll see it under $1250 at launch - whenever that is.

The Clove price, even including shipping and GST, is still a pretty good price for this phone. Go for the Royal Mail option and you may even avoid paying GST. It'd still end up under $1200 at the most so it's not a bad deal at all.

It probably will stay that way until after it has been delivered. At least you made the first shipment and aren't waiting for it to ship this Friday!

Explain the maths, please
Expansys NZ$958.73
Clove 440 pounds ie NZ$940 @ NZ$1 = .47 pound
Mobicity $1,219

All ex freight and GST if payable

How can Expansys be regarded as expensive?
