How do I stop the gmail and email app from downloading remote images?
The LG didn't do that and I'd like to keep it that way.

0verdose05: Those that have received there phones mind chucking up there thoughts on the GPS and the quickness of the phone with apps loaded already.

Works fine, I can have up to 11 satellites on display in the GPS test program, takes a minute or so to sync up and detects me at my home address on google maps.

Bteam: You may be wrong about the GST and Mobicity profiting from the transaction.

If its a GST registered company here it collects the GST from you on your purchase and offsets that against the GST it pays Customs. It owes the balance to the IRD.

Sure, it shouldn't be falsely claiming the value of the phone.

Why doesn't anyone buy from Expansys?

Well they profit in that they can have a higher sell price than others - but landed price is still similar (so they score an extra 150 bucks). You the customer still payout a gross amount that is similar, but less tax is collected.
Why would you by from Exspensys !

Broph: Do you think that I should wait until it's released here in NZ because the handset may cost $999 by itself, but if I bought it from Clove, pay the shipping & likely tax... it will probably end up being $1300 or so.

Handtec.co.uk are cheaper than Clove. Got mine from them took 5 days to arrive. And they are easy to deal with. Why wait?? thats all I can say! it will be old stock by the time Telecom/Vodafone bloat it up and release it.

Handtec model is quad freq.

PS dont buy from Techbrands (NZ company) if it has an issue you will have lots of greif!

The speed NZ Customs work at, it'll be next year before they finish their investigation.

But I think you're right. Can't see how it was disadvantaging me, to be honest. Or anybody else here for that matter.

owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

Well they are a company and breaking the law. GST should be being paid if the customs record is correct and customs decide to collect based on that, thats obvious a tax that is used to pay for all the various things in NZ that everyone uses. So yes it does disadvantage you and everyone else, if every company did this NZ would be even more in debt. I don't think the person was reporting them cause he was upset that he had to pay gst and others didn't but simply that a company shouldnt be doing that. They deserve to get fined or whatever. Not sure how that will work as they have no physical presence etc. Its a little unfair on other companies too isn't it? As I said in an earlier post if someone gets lucky and their phone made it through customs then so be it, as long as it had the correct value on it etc but I think you have to draw the line when a company is defrauding the country.

I don't see how they're defrauding the country - GST is an internal consumption tax, applied here only, doesn't profit the sender or the sender's country in any way. It's absolutely no different to your "if it gets through without Customs noticing, it's OK" morality. Either way, the Govt misses out on taxation.

But, look, if you can't see the hypocrisy in your argument, then continuing on with this discussion is just a waste of my heartbeats. So I'll politely drop out of this and agree to differ.

In this instance the company, Mobicity, is committing a crime. They are deliberately undervaluing the phone to get it through customs without getting picked up. They are also charging us, the consumers, full price, and are portraying themselves as a company with an NZ presence, which they do not have. They apparently de-registered as a company in Aussie last year and are probably doing the same thing there.

They are taking our money, charging us the equivalent GST inclusive price, and are pocketing the difference. You'd be better off going with Handtec and Clove and taking the chance that your package might not get picked up for GST - it'll still be cheaper in the long run.

I'm a bit annoyed as I placed my pre-order with them because I wanted to use a company with a presence here. Instead I've paid an inflated price (they've pocketed their normal profit + the GST equivalent) and help them boost their profits, while they've happily committed fraud. I doubt much can be done to them as they have nothing in NZ, but I know I'll never use them again.

It is different to the hit and miss method, as the company sending it is doing the right thing (full value listed). If it doesn't get picked up the so be it, it was sent correctly and not picked up by customs, the consumer pockets the difference. If the company deliberately mislabels the package ($200 Smasung S5230) that is clearly fraud, and they pocket the extra money - ripping off both the customer and customs.

What's more, I think they've changed their site regarding GST.

Before I ordered, I checked to make sure that the price included GST, and that I wouldn't get stung as the phone came in. I'm sure I saw something on their Customer Service > Payments page that all prices included GST. I just tried to find that again, and it's no longer there.

I have just left a review on PriceSpy about them. Hopefully that will warn a few people about their tricks. It's a pity that they're so dodgy about Customs, because apart from that they've actually been pretty good to deal with.

Well lets get this straight.

A companay is lying about the item inside which is a crime.
They are also lying about the vaue of the item, another crime.

so without even going into the tax part they are already breaking the law in a big way.

Going onto the tax, yes maybe you are right and all the people that have had items go through customs and weren't caught by customs are sinners. I think most people assume rightly or wrongly that if it goes through customs and is marked with its value correctly then customs werent interested I am not sure if we should be having to chase customs up once we get an item to try and pay tax on it or not or even if they would be interested.

I personally think they are at very different ends of the scale.
This company had a price and were telling people they wouldnt get hit by GST, it makes it hard on a legitimate company that labels things correctly to compete doesn't it? A company that offers the same price as a dodgey one but labels things correctly and then has to tell customers you probably will have to pay GST also.

I see your point but I think most people would also see the degree of difference here and use a bit of common sense.

Assuming I dont want to use Mobicity (I see they aren't shipping anything new for 2 weeks at least anyway), which would be the best site to order an S2 from? Clove seem the most reliable and likely to get more stock the fastest?

Clove have a very good name, they are pretty fast, seem to get stock quickly and their customer service is pretty good.
I've ordered two phones, one from unlocked mobiles, one from clove.
I never had a problem with either store and would use either again.

Some people had issues with unlocked mobiles because of their credit checks and lack of info about their credit checks...
I think unlocked are usually a bit cheaper than clove but not a huge difference.
