Clove have a very good name, they are pretty fast, seem to get stock quickly and their customer service is pretty good.
I've ordered two phones, one from unlocked mobiles, one from clove.
I never had a problem with either store and would use either again.

Some people had issues with unlocked mobiles because of their credit checks and lack of info about their credit checks...
I think unlocked are usually a bit cheaper than clove but not a huge difference.

I placed my order with Unlocked Mobile this morning. And within about 1 minute my bank was on the phone checking that I'd authorised the charge which I thought was pretty quick and decent of them (nice one ANZ). Hopefully that's all that's needed from the bank to see the order progress without any hiccups. Stock wont be in until the 16th though. Hopefully my order nabs one of those phones, their website suggests they'll have plenty of stock from that shipment.

And yes, they were a bit cheaper than Clove. I think the shipping was marginally cheaper too, and they say the package (sent Royal Mail) will require a signature.

Reading that it indicates people ordering to NZ will not face Customs?

Also another SGS2 Buyer messaged me saying "I just asked and they said they cover everything including customs fees"

So i have just had a live chat with one of the mobicity reps after I saw all this GST issues.

They told me "our product doesn't have GST'

The responses she gave were a bit vague, so I put this question to her

"Put it this way. If customs say they have the phone and wont release it unless GST is paid, will mobicity pay that.

there reply

"No, we will not be. As you could see on the invoice which states that there is NO GST on our handsets as mobicity is not an Australian company"

Also, i swear I saw price included GST. Maybe my mind playing tricks on me, but i cant remember for sure since i ordered on 24th Apr.

Can someone confirm if they saw GST included? otherwise an extra ~$190 ontop of what we already paid mobicity is ridiculous.

Technically I think Customs charge Import Tax and not GST, although the rate is the same.

GST is not an import duty, nor is it a restriction. GST is a consumption tax levied on the price paid on goods you purchase. "Import fees" as written also cannot apply to GST for the same reason.

I read that as Australia, New Zealand, USA and UK do not levy import duty on imports but other nations might well do, so check with your local customs to make certain. VAT and GST are notable by their absence in that disclaimer you quote.

Assume that GST will be payable on any import, regardless if Customs choose to apply it or not. Then it's up to you to decide whether to alert them to your liability.

I believe that only specific products attract Import Duty (Jewellery springs to mind) with most products including consumer electronics being exempt. Can't be arsed looking it up but pretty sure I'm correct.

Handtec.co.uk are cheaper than Clove. Got mine from them took 5 days to arrive. And they are easy to deal with. Why wait?? thats all I can say! it will be old stock by the time Telecom/Vodafone bloat it up and release it.

Handtec model is quad freq.

PS dont buy from Techbrands (NZ company) if it has an issue you will have lots of greif!

did u get stung by gst at customs ?? what postal service u used? mines currebtly on pre order for the may 16th batch :(

Came via DHL, they rung me when it hit Auckland on the Fri, (paid $190 Duty), had it in my hand Monday 1:30pm.

Easy as.

Same here in Dunedin, when i order aoftware from Adobe it is sent via FEDEX and they just have one guy here who gave me a call when it arrived in Dunedin.

He was super helpful and i got my parcel within 35mins of the phone call.

Considering it was $7 extra than standard courier i was super impressed.

I bought a galaxy s i9000 off the sister company (for the Wellington store) back in October last year. I think both the Chch and Wgtn stores used to be jointly owned/run but are now separate. The Wgtn one I bought from is renamed ezigadget - www.ezigadget.co.nz

Note I don't see the s2 there yet on the ezigadget site yet but can't be far away if ezishopping has it listed..

In short: integrity of the guy who owns & runs it is good, but as you would expect service process/times are more painful with a parallel importer than they would be with say Vodafone who might just replace a problematic phone on the spot.

As an early adopter I went the parallel importer route as Vodafone didnt have the i9000 back then and it was likely to be a bit cheaper in any case. I also wanted to order from a bricks and mortar store that had been around for a few years rather than a website (like Mobicity) that might be gone tomorrow. Problem was within a few weeks of purchase my phone got bricked (no ROM flashing attempts back then, honest!) through pulling out the battery to reset it. It caused some memory buffer error beyond the capabilities of the NZ shop to fix and it had to get sent back to Korea for them to do a hardware based reflash. Six weeks later I got my phone back - a painful wait - but the guy overall was helpful and apologetic. I don't doubt that if you needed a genuine replacement for a defective phone he would honour it as he has a reputation to uphold.

Apparently a new (or revised) version of the SG2 is already on the way! This one has the NFC chip and will be coming around June...

i dont know much about this nfc ,like a virtual credit/payment card ? , wont the shops have to adapt with the techonlogy or will it just work with the existing payment terminals ?

I have asked mobicity to cancel my order (waiting on confirm email though). They said I would get full refund which is good.

I almost decided that i was going to risk it, but then, whats the point. Just not worth the headache if customs check it. Plus slightly more paranoid now that some of you have stated you have raised the issue to customs which now created greater risk.

Will wait for refund to come through then look at options.

Also know a couple of others who have now decided to cancel theres.

I spoke to the dude from Ezigadget today and he has not any confirmed dates from his suppliers yet. He also reckons that the price listed on Ezishopping is subject to change as there are no price confirmations yet.
