joker97: just a question - i did a CWM backup. is it a complete 100% image that fully restores everything back to that point (like windows 7 PC backup) with one click?
K1000716:joker97: ok thanks!!! PHEW
Do make a back-up of your EFS though. There's a simple tool here for that. The companion tool will back up and restore the efs and help remove the warning triangle.
Damager: Crap.. one thing i forgot to do, backup the EFS..Okay so i boot up with the exclamation mark, will this remain forever now?

I didn't back-up mine for ages, now I've got a copy on the pc. ;)
The triangle isn't a problem, have a go at using the companion tool I linked before. There's a procedure listed with the tool. It only shows that you've flashed a non stock kernel, not really a problem unless you have to send your phone back. It affects nothing.
fergis: So many guides about updating to 2.3.4 say "Install Supercore using ODIN" but I have been unable to find any detailed instructions of how to do this. Any ideas?
I have looked through Brendan's guide and canot see anything relevant...

Telecom Galaxy S II users, which custom roms have you got running?
Lite'ning Rom v6.1 with SpeedMod K1-T39 kernel
Cheers K1000716!
Any particular reason over other ROMS? Just wondering which one to flash as my first custom ROM.
I have been favoring the criskelorom myself; lots of features, reliable, etc.
On 2degrees. But that shouldn't matter - just flash the appropriate modem for telecom. You'll have to do that for all roms.
I've been running Cognition S2 with the SpeedMod kernel for a while, and the combo works great. Not too many changes from stock, and I'm easily getting 2 days between charges.
You don't have to worry too much about finding a Telecom modem with this phone. The original Galaxy S needed different modems because the Telecom version ran on different frequencies to the Vodafone/international version, and the phone hardware was slightly different. The SGS2 has quad-band 3G, so the hardware is the same for all networks in NZ.
Some people with the sgs2 are finding modems specifically written for the 850mhz band give better and more reliable performance.
The sgs 1 had different models for 850mhz and 900mhz; a simple swap of modem firmware was not all that was required to change bands; however the sgs2 is quad band as you say and does not suffer that annoyance. Still, picking the right firmware for the modem for your provider can reportedly improve results. Threads on XDA about it IIRC.
Thanks everyone for the input! Used your guide Brendan to get initial root. Thanks for that. I did wonder with the s2 being quad band 3g, the necessity to flash a modem separately but i can certainly understand that some modems may optimise performance on certain 3g bands. I did flash litening rom initially. but i'm slightly confused on something after the flash.
The original telecom wallpaper remained after the flash, which tells me it is a non wipe rom. Is this correct? I expected everything to be completely wiped. This surprised me, or have i done something wrong?
Pleased to help.
No, it simply means that particular rom did not replace that particular image. There are various messages on XDA about removing or changing such things, but my advice is to leave it - it's not worth the bother.
Some roms change all that stuff - I never had such a screen, as mine was a parallel import.
Cheers for that Brendan. I actually used your guide for the whole flashing procedure and gave me confidence to use Odin and havent used it often in the past. No probs, won't worry about things left over, I assumed it was a "bad flash" .

If in doubt, buy a contract-free SGS2 retail from JB etc - none of this worry about the T variant or any branding that way.
Anecdotal evidence in THIS thread is that the T variant works better with the matched modem due to the lower SAR which is apparently the only difference (relates to the radio although still quadband)

No, not quite - it doesn't back up the EFS partition or the boot sectors (or the sd cards). As far as I know (correct me if i'm wrong). Just the OS itself and user settings.
It is imperative to backup your EFS before any custom roms are installed. Someone elses efs will NOT EVER work.
