portege: How much is this phone in NZ? Recently got this in the UK for ?149 + 12 months contract - ?32pm 500minutes, unlimited txts, 500MB data.

There are no places selling official NZ stock yet. A number of parallel importers have it, with prices starting NZD1150 (around GBP560).

It'll be interesting to see when Vodafone/Telecom get it in, how much they'll sell it for (outright), and what sort of subsidy they'll provide when on contract.

I have been given a pair of Zagg 25% discount codes for people to use after buying an invisible shield skin for my SGS2. And as a cheeky little cheers for the help people have given me i'll put them up for people here to use.

PM me if you want one so only members can get them, and it's first in first served.

I'm taking this with massive dose of sodium chloride, but the prognosticators on the Vodafone forum are saying the SGS2 will launch around June 15th.

Hmmm, anyone else seem the GSMArena review?

Looks like the MHL adapter that Samsung is selling supports USB OTG....as well as chargers, if that's true, AWESOME!!!

www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9100_galaxy_s_ii-review-597p10.php

"The MHL port has yet another feature ? it enables USB On-The-Go"

- Edit, although maybe that could be a mistake?  As you might need a charger for the MHL adapter to work in the first place??

Yeah I think you're misreading it. The port can do both (although not at the same time) not the adaptor. I believe I read that it's technically not possible to do both at the same time.

Has anyone else had problems with the phone hanging. It has happened to me about 3 or 4 times now, been using it fine then put it to sleep and go to use it again and it won't turn on or respond at all. Pop the battery out and boot it back up and its sweet.

Ok, bootcamp did it. Fresh install of kies and all went very smooth.

Cell standby with no reception seems to be now going down after being at 100% for two days.

No other issues, battery life seems good, 3 days on background data over hsdpa, Skype and yahoo messenger running

I've had some games hang on me, but I've always been able to long press on the home button, bring up the task manager and kill the app. Certainly nothing as bad as what you've had.

I don't know if you guys know this, as most androids don't have a hardware based way to do this...

By pressing the POWER and home screen button at the same time, you can take a screen shot of everything on your screen.

Good to hear you have your phone, might be worth reading this thread from the start while its still young, there are links to rooting the phone etc which takes it to another level.

[rant]I can confidently say that this phone, nay device, is the best i've ever used. And i'd like to think i've used/owned most of the lead contenders in the last 10 years and it's only the second Samsung that I can think of off the top of my head that I've actually shelled out for. It stands out as a top shelf device.

Even with all the small niggling factors that it has, it's a sign of the devices pedigree that i'm complaining about the location of the power button and a battery life that is significantly better than my N1 but perhaps worse than other SGS2 owners. Seriously it's worth every penny.[/rant]

I've ordered one of the docks from Clove and can post some pictures once it arrives but has anyone had any luck with other docks? I'm thinking I might have to fabricate my own in the mean time by modifying some ones on Thingiverse.com but want to know if there is one out there in the wild I can copy?

Yeah I have been following this one as well that the "who's interested" thread.

Being my first android device, i'm still learning but it looks like geekzone is going to be an invaluable resource in the future Smile

I'm glad you're enjoying it and confident you made the right decision to move from your iPhone.  Thanks for bringing the phone in.  It was nice to get a feel for the size/weight of the phone.  The screen is very slick, in every way.
