Kelem: Gone back to 2.3.6 using CheckROM RevoHD V6, much easier to use and is super fast, no issues, will wait tfor a while to go to ICS, if i keep my droid stuff, got a hankering to go to the darkside (IOS) for a play

What's caused you to give up on ICS? (and potentially Android!). I'm running WanamLite and Siyah 3.0.1 and it's great; smooth, fast, and battery life will only get better.

I loaded wanamlite 3 times and it was slow/crashed/did wierd stuff. Each time I wiped etc. Dunno why it was like that. I just loaded it a 4th time but instead of stock I used the theme. So far so good. Just anoying took so many tries.

I'd reccomend the latest mega or wanam ics roms. They have already been fixed to stop the flash counter being changed.

The problem is the new bootloader that comes with the official ICS has been changed by samsung so the flash counter in it cannot be wiped with the usb jig etc. So we have to install the old bootloader to get that back if you want the yellow triangle gone or to return it under warranty.

There are official smasung releases that have also had the bootloader removed in one of the xda threads.

So would flashing the latest Omega/Wanamlite straight via ODIN be ok, or does it need to be done like the guy posted earlier: root with an exploit, then flash via mobile ODIN?

Ease of use for me is the biggest thing i know GB pretty good and really can't be bothered with a learning curve atm.

Still 50/50 with the IOS idea, got the kid a ipad coming home from AUS, must say i like it alot.

The weirdest thing happened to me this morning. I was using the phone when out of the blue the mobile data stopped. No warnings, just stopped.
I've since tried different modems, my IMEI is fine (means EFS is fine too?) and so is the Skinny network, but the phone can only make emergency calls.

I don't have another sim card to test it with at the moment, but can only imagine it has died for some reason. Other than a dead sim though could there be any other cause for this?

Have you checked if the access point names are still there under network settings?
Had same problem and found mine had disappeared. I ended up formatting the system folder and re-installing.
Cant tell you what caused it but that fixed it

My APN's were fine. It was looking like a sim problem but shortly after making the post I was able to test another sim, with the same result. It appears that the fault was a corrupted EFS folder, but I have no idea how. At the time it happened I was using my gmail app to open a Geekzone e-mail and then launch Chrome to view the forum. The connection then failed and that was it. I always thought that an EFS corruption meant that your IMEI would also read incorrectly, if at all. That wasn't the case for me though. Everything seemed perfectly fine, but completely refused to work.

I've just managed to fix it using a rather dubious appearing app: GSII Repair
For some reason most EFS restore apps just didn't want to work - but this did. If anyone has a rooted phone and hasn't backed up their efs yet download ktool from the market and back it up now. It'll save a lot of grief later if things go wrong.

On the up side I'm loving CdTDroiD's tweaked CM9. Having a local Dev produce a slightly tweaked version was enough to get me to try it again and I'm loving it. I still haven't tried my OTG or MHL adaptors, but everything else seems to work perfectly. It's well worth a try if you haven't yet.

I have just got a GT-I9100T and wish to use it on vodafone.

From what i have read on this and other forums, the I9100T has an optimised firmware for a different frequency ? (correct me if im wrong) ideally at the moment i would rather leave it untouched but if it wont work correctly on Vodafone then i will have to flash the sucker.

What i wnt to know is, if this is the case, then what firmware would people recommend i update the phone to if i want to use this on Vodafone?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated :)

put vodafone simcard and you are good to go. that phone is quadband wcdma.

So it doesn't have a cut down version of the firmware or anything ?
I don't want to have issues with reception/data speeds.

I am with vodafone and my Vodafone GT-9100 is still on 2.3.3. Kies says up to date no new firmware

Hi again,

After chucking the Vodafone sim into the I9100T it all seems to work fine.

However I'm not a fan of the bloat-ware (telecom) and am looking at flashing, probably to a stock I9100 rom (rather than I9100T variant)

Is it fine to flash a I9100 rom on a I9100T ? (As mentioned before I'm on Vodafone) and also what modem is best to use for the Vodafone network ?

If you can find Odin version of those roms, it would be ok.

But using odin is inherently more risky than using CWM to flash the rom. You can permanently ruin your s2 with odin; CWM is much harder to bugger up.

If your s2 does NOT have cwm installed yet, you will HAVE to use odin as per my faq.
1. Download and copy the ROM zip file to your sdcard, make sure it's not corrupt (open in with winzip on the pc first).
2. Download the newest version of siyah kernel - Odin version. Download Odin 1.85 as well. All on XDA. Put them onto your PC.
3. Make sure you have the drivers for the s2 installed on your pc (kies, see the faq).
4. Put your s2 into download mode (faq), Start Odin on the pc, THEN plug your s2 into the pc. Wait for any drivers to install.
5. Put the siyah kernel tar file into the PDA section of odin. Untick re-boot. Don't tick or change anything else - see faq.
6. Click the start button. DO NOT play with your computer or have any other apps going. If it interrupts the data transfer to the s2, you're (potentially) f-ed.
7. It'll say pass, and you unplug the cable. Take the battery out. Wait a minute. Put it back in, and boot into recovery mode (see faq). You then use CWM to wipe your device, then flash your rom zip file off the sdcard.
8. ????
9. $$$$$
10. Winning!
11. Reboot into your new rom.

Mobile odin requires your s2 to be rooted already. So it's only useful AFTER your use PC odin to flash siyah (etc).

You don't have to use the PC odin at all. If you root using zergrush, you can install a CF-root or Siyah kernel using Mobile Odin to get CWM. Once you have CWM you can flash any ROM of your choice. You don't risk touching your Flash counter at all if you follow this method.
