Spong: Just received my GSII through NZ Customs yesterday, and when I came to sync mine with Outlook for the second time today using Kies, saw that there is a firmware update available already. Current version onboard is

Just finished updating mine, new download screen is much nicer than the old screen(but not more digging Android man unfortunately)
Now on XWKE1, don't actually think much has changed, that I can see anyway, still 2.3.3
Testing Quadrant: 3115 roughly the same
Don't think much if anything has changed tbh..
All apps, settings, emails, messages, contacts etc were kept which was good :)

Also did my old i9000(now my wifes) to JVH, seems all good :)

If any of you guys want a good app, get Nexus Torch and switch it to strobe, great for blinding work colleagues

Watched the review this morning. Very impressed, and placed my order on ebay this evening. Thanks for sharing :)

And my SGS will be a hand me down too, to my husband.

I bought one within minutes of you putting the link on twitter... NZD$5.20 delivered, although they did say the estimated arrival time is 2-4 weeks. If only the MHL adapters could be a similar deal...

Has anyone tried the adapters that were available, briefly, for the SGS? I know they're not MHL, but didn't they have an HDMI out with a micro-usb charger socket as well?

NZtechfreak:
kiwitrc:Thing I noticed was the automatic brightness seems to change brightness randomly so I turned it off.

If you long press the notification tray when automatic brightness is turned off sliding left and right on the tray dims and brightens the screen, much easier than relying on autobrightness. Many here will know that, but just in case anyone didn't...

Thanks! I did not know that.

Those of you who have rooted, any issues? I see there is a counter for the number of ROMS loaded but I also saw that there is a method to reset that with a jig if necessary.

After getting the new firmware last night, I noticed a new Samsung Apps with new camera firmware, took about 4 minutes to update the firmware

Not sure if it improves the contrast or colour saturation but guess we'll see in the next few days :)

How is the battery running for you guys?
I took mine off charge 3 hours ago and it is already at 80%. I have disabled Wifi, and GPS.

I read somewhere that the battery performance should improve after a few full charges, is this true?

Thanks :)

True, the battery will improve.

How much screen-on time did you have in those 3 hours?

After 2hr 15min mine is sitting at 93%, and thats with continuous gmail sync (I'm getting a lot of email at present too, its set to download entire messages), hourly weather updates, hourly Twitter and Facebook update, continuous RSS reader updates, and a little screen on time.

3 Hr 17min battery time
38m screen-on time and it has contributed to 41% of my battery drain today.

I have Gmail sync, hourly weather updates, Facebook and calender sync also.
I have a data meter (PhoneUsage) widget, circle battery widget and Widgetlocker running.

My battery life has gone up dramatically in the last few days. My first day I only got about 8 hours charge before the phone complained, but that was fairly heavy use. I can now go through the entire day at work and use only 30% battery, and that's with WiFi on synching 4 email accounts (Exchange, ISP's IMAP, Hotmail and GMail).

In terms of battery usage: idle 3G < WiFi < data over 3G. This is because the 3G transmitter uses more power than the WiFi transmitter. So if you're using data all the time, and WiFi is available to you, use that and your battery will last longer.

Does anyone know if a teardown has been done yet to confirm what chipset is being used for audio?  I had a feeling it was a Yamaha chipset?
