My internet connecction has been much worse than normal recently and the phone has no dial tone and is engaged when called. The line stats are currently as follows:

It previously had an attenuation of around 31dB (or something) and a downstream attainable rate around 8mbps. The phone hasn't worked for about a week. The problem seems to be intermittent as it also was happening a couple of weeks ago but fixed itself somehow. It may just be just coincidental but this most recent case started during heavy rain one night.

Edit: Sorry, that table turned into a complete mess.

So,

your connection is slower than normal, and your phone doesnt work..

i dont know about you, but this screams a line fault to me... have you contacted spark and logged a fault?

That's what I thought.

They said there was nothing wrong with the line and that the problem was in the house. (I didn't contact them, this is what the person who did told me)

This. Vey likely to be a damaged joint that is getting moisture in every time it rains.

Ild look at resolving your Phone issue, and hope it fixes your DSL as its likely the same issue considering it broke at the same time.

try another phone, in another jackpoint, check no phone is off the hook, if its still not working, ring spark back up...

They have no idea if it is inside or outside the house from the tests they do.

If you pay wiring maintance, log a fault.

If not, isolate it at the demarc and see if it works, if it doesnt, log a fault, if it does then fix your internal wiring issue.

If you dont want to/cant isolate it at the demarc point then take a choice between logging a fault and getting charged if it is internal, or else getting a tech out at your own expense to investigate the internal wiring.

Hi, I've had something like this recently which got resolved in this thread http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumId=49&topicId=150070.

Before that it was intermittent for about six months - sometimes a busy tone until you rang the landline, other times that didn't work.

Unplug the modem and see if you still have a busy tone, if it that solves it then you have a faulty modem sending dc current back down the line, which is overpowering the dial tone.

had the same problem, no phone and very limited/degraded internet. chorus came out and spent 2 days fixing it/ was a damaged join where it came off the main cable and they had to rerun the feeder for our house and our neighbours (feed from the same pole)

call your isp and log a fault. mine took about 9 days to get fixed
