Hi,

My Nokia 920 that I bought from Telecom about two months has suddenly developed a faulty headset jack.  It only plays music through my headphones on one side (before anyone asks I have tried it with a different pair to get the same result)  Obviously it is under warranty still so I'm going to be taking it back for repair.  The question is, how can I make my phone as secure as possible so the repairer cant get into my details.  E.g people hub, email accounts etc.  It might be a broad question but any tips on how to lock down these sorts of tiles/accounts would be great.

Reset the phone to remove all information.

You risk having the phone stuck in the cog wheels during reset, which will require it to be flashed again.

I was hoping to avoid a hard reset but if its the only way to be fully secure then that's what I'll have to do. Thanks

If you can't put a password on it, you'll need to do a hard reset

Sounds like a hardware fault - so there's a 50/50 chance they give you a replacement phone rather than opening it up & trying to resolder the jack connections. Back up everything & wipe it - they can't easily check that its working without having access to the phone, so just passwording it isn't that useful.

I always thought that when you are getting your phone repaired by a 'repair shop' that these repair shops make you sign a piece of paper to say "repair shop not responsible for any lost data as a result of any repairs and that the phone owner acknowledges this and has backed up their data if they did choose to do this before repair".

OP may be more worried about the repairer getting into their email correspondance, txts, or collection of naked selfies ;-)

Sorry wasnt clear... I meant 'back up' and reset as MF mentioned.

When I have had phones repaired, they flash a new firmware on as part of the process generally. So just back up everything that is not synced to the cloud and do the reset yourself. They will need to get in and test it works anyway so locking the repairer out is not really an option.

I should point out this is a known problem with the phone, all that is required to fix it is to power off the phone and power on again.

Yeah I tried turning it off several times including a soft reset. No luck so it must be a hardware thing.
