Hey Guys,

I've recently switched to Snap from Slingshot, and have had a Master Filter installed to ensure that there is minimal interference on my line, but I am plagued by slow speeds. As at the time I am typing this I have connected at 2.2Mbit/s down and 864kbit up. 

When I check my address on Telecoms address checker it tells me I should get 12 Mbit/s. 

The speed that I have been getting has constantly been degrading over the last couple of years - I used to get around 12Mbit and now the highest I see is around 5, and the lowest is around 1.8.

If I have just had a new Master Filter installed and have a new modem, yet the problem persists, can I be safe in saying that it is not something wrong on the premises that is causing this issue? I am wanting to get to the bottom of it but am reluctant to possibly fork out $275 like it states on the Snap website in a possible call out.

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

The performance bar is set all the way to max performance unfortunately! I would hate to see what would happen if I moved it to stability haha!

well, it would explain why your SNR is up so high.


at this point, one thing is pretty clear, you have a wiring issue. 


get the master filter installed, did you ask an isp for a Prequal? that should give you a reasonable idea for where your line should be.


your Downstream Attenuation.


without an exact address, looking at around about where you are, you are JUST outside of the VDSL area, which ild put you at about 12-16Mbit. which clearly isnt what your line stats is indicating.

I got coffeebaron to install a master filter last week so I don't think that's the issue :( I just talked to tech support and they think I should be getting at least 10mbit. He is going to put a monitor on the line overnight and see if they can spot anything unusual. Very strange indeed.

explains why your upload is so strong, clearly there is something on your line that needs a touchup :)


keep at it, snap will get ya sorted. no way should you be getting that low right there.

They are going to send a chorus technician out to check the line - but if they don't find a fault then it's going to cost $275 - ouch! If coffeebaron installed the Master Filter for me it is very unlikely that the problem is with internal wiring right?
