wellygary:
We now have an official vaccine update page, its still only weekly updates, but at least it is something...
Thanks. Good to see (at last!)
Update on NZ vaccination progress vs AU.
NZ (~1.8 doses per 100 population) just over half the AU per capita doses (3.3 per 100 population to 6 Apr). AU had a bit of speed wobble over the last 4 days though. Partly EU issues, partly Easter?
Both of course very low compared to most other high income countries. Probably rightly so given that both have virtually no community transmission. Same applies for Taiwan and Vietnam, both of which appear to have just started vaccinations (only 0.07 & 0.05 doses / 100 people as at 5 Apr and 3 Apr respectively)
Data sources:
Although its really hard to find how many in OZ have had two doses...
I manged to find VIC (21.7K a pop of 6.7 million )
https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-data
Makes our 19K for 5 million look good...
Excuse my ignorance, but who are all these people with Covid in MIQ that are coming in from India etc ?Not sure how true this is as I read it online, but are they close relatives of permanent residents who have coat tailed their way in?

In the simplest of ways. I suspect so also.
Many seem to include 'known contacts' (aka family members within an MiQ group). Some historic. And not all on the same flights
Could be wrong, but believe traditionally the likes of working families, can and do send one of the couple away for years at a time to earn a better wage than they would at home and send money offshore. Whilst the remainder of family stay. Unless the partner initially joins them to start a new family
I think what we possibly see here, are (somehow) those extended family members being escorted/moving location.
Family members of New Zealand citizens or residents who do not hold relationship-based visas
If you are a partner, dependent child, or legal guardian of a New Zealand citizen or resident and you do not have a visa based on this relationship — like a partner visa — you may be able to travel to New Zealand. You must be travelling with your New Zealand citizen or resident family member or normally live in New Zealand.
There is also now a working visa holder partner allowance now for work visa holders who have been living here
Someone else who things agreeing to conditions of entry and flying means you can get out of them with the human rights line..
Guess we will be paying like we did the Australian lady too.
Actual figures by immigration status are here:

The real problem with our vaccine stats is that nobody seems to be on the same page.
After all the updates today where is seems to now be acknowledged that we are behind we've had the Health Minister come out and say they're hoping to ramp up to 10,000 vaccinations per day before the end of the month.
The problem is our target is still 2 million people before the end of June and 1.7m of those are supposed to be vaccinated in May and June - so we're going to need to be averaging around 50,000 vaccinations every day from the 1st May. I just fail to see how they're going to be able to ramp up to anywhere near those levels when the wheels seem to be falling off still when they're only doing a few thousand per day.
so we have a new scientist group https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-coronavirus-new-scientist-group-to-advise-govt-on-vaccine-rollout-border-changes/ZYE5ZKBAD2OULSQZRV5FLNSLWA/
but no this is not the group that will speed up vaccination ...

The "problem" probably won't be something we (NZ) has control over.
Aus has had issues getting AZ vaccine shipments apparently blocked by the EU. Demand for the Pfizer vaccine will have increased due to issues with the AZ vaccine. The Sinovac vaccine appears to perform poorly - particularly against some variant strains.
4,000 people a day are dying in Brazil, about 3 million have died globally. We don't have such a problem here.
You probably shouldn't shouldn't ramp up first dose rollout until sufficient vaccine for second dose is shipped, or if that goes awry you'll be stuck with a large number of people in the population with unknown immunity, which would be a huge spanner in the works for any "exit plan".

NZ Herald presents a poster that's a month out of date - thus giving out the wrong information on current alert levels in Auckland in that article.
Access NZ's best journalism for $1.50 / week? No thanks.

Are there any stats on the efficacy of the second dose versus the time between the two doses? Will it be better or worse if the second dose is administered (say) 30 days after the first, and by how much?
IIRC, single dose efficacy is about 70%? So, although it's not as good as two doses, it's better than nothing.
i.e. can we just get lots of first doses administered, even if that means there's some delays in getting the second dose done?

On the 24th Feb, Hipkins said this,,,,
“By the end of March, we’re due to receive a total of about 450,000 doses – enough to vaccinate 225,000 people with a two-dose course.
.. Now we have not been told there has been any delays with this, so that should mean there are 350,000 doses sitting in a freezer in Auckland, at 10K per day that is over a months supply... there is no exclude not be to at that daily target already....

Except that to "ramp up" and then have to "ramp down" if vaccination rate is scaled up and then must be scaled down will be a serious problem if expected deliveries do not arrive in full and on time.
Do you think that the government is conspiring to deceive us or something?
Fred99:

Do you think that the government is conspiring to deceive us or something?
And that is the rub, we were told about the arrival of the first 3 shipments, but nothing more has been released...
If the shipments are arriving fine with no delays I cannot see why we would not ramp up now...
But if shipments are being delayed, ( Which will be due to the actions of the EU) surely this is something that the government should make public...
No I don't think there the government is conspiring,
BUT what I do think is that bureaucracies dislike sunlight, and politicians should be ensuring we have an open and transparent civil service....
