Thanks. I am sure you can classify this as bait advertising. There was a lot of time wasted and money kept for over 48 hours irrespective of their terms.

I doubt it. Aside from the link to the actual product, was it actually advertised anywhere?

(I found the link through this forum - I didn't see it on their website anywhere)

sbiddle: The response to this and exceptionally poorly written letter is nothing but a disaster from JB HiFi - and that's being kind to them.

Any retailer is well within their rights to not sell a product because of a mistake, and their terms and conditions along with the FTA make that very clear. I expected when I ordered the product that this would happen.

The way this has been handled on the other hand is very different - the letter they sent out should have essentially said "we made a stuff up and had this at the wrong price. sorry". It didn't. Who possibly knows what a "porting error" is? There is no mention that the price was actually wrong, simply that they've cancelled the order.

As their T&C says they can cancel the order if its the wrong Price/Image or Description I would have presumed they made a mistake on one of these. If its not one of these can they cancel the order?

kendo: I sent them an email saying that we will take action against them, citing the fair trading act. Especially since people were able to go in store and buy them at this price. I encourage everyone to do the same.

Were they? The few posts I saw about going in store mentioned that the in-store price was hundreds of dollars higher.

One guy said his mate when in and got 2 for that price.

That was more a case of finding a staff member/manager who had enough authorisation and will to discount the price to the $48 to match. An isolated incident. Another mate of mine tried another branch and was told that wasn't available instore.

Ha ha "We have been contacted by our technical support team as we have had an issue with this item not porting through to our system correctly, and they have advised that this problem has affected your order/s."

"technical ... issue" Well that's one way of explaining website incompetence leading to mega-embarassment.

Who's gonna find a cardboard box on their desk at JB Hi-Fi head office tomorrow morning?

Cancelled, should have twigged when I first saw it that it was too good to be true.

Gotta add my 2 cents to this , I was not lucky enough to have seen the deal and purchased one or two that would have been cancelled.

I think everybody understands that yes it was a mistake and bugger we are not going to get it but hey it was worth a try.

From the looks of it everybody is more pissed off with how they have handled it and that is putting most peoples backs up.

Will be interesting to see if JB realize this and make a better formal apologies instead of feeding their customers bs.

Yip and they're well within their right to do that - but they haven't said anywhere that the price was incorrect. Their only explanation was a "porting error". Their email should have very clearly mentioned the price was wrong, but it didn't.

When I look at their T&C's it would appear they don't have to say the price is wrong, they can cancel for any reason

"JB Hi-Fi reserves the right to cancel, at any time before delivery and for whatever reason, an Order that it has previously accepted."

That said I agree poorly handled. lets see what tomorrow brings in regards to communications and although I don't see them reversing the cancellation some gesture would be nice amends.

They should have better processes to a] ensure accurate pricing b] how to handle mistakes out of hours

I think if any one person actually gets this, it makes the case of everyone else much stronger. I also feel for the poor sod who has worked overtime all weekend sifting through the many (hundreds? thousands?) of orders. I'm sure it had to be done by hand, to make sure there wasn't another stuff-up, or a legitimate order didn't get cancelled. That explains the staggered timing of the cancellations and email notifications.

I look forward to tomorrow.

I'm like a few others and not surprised but irked by the email explanation. Does anyone really know the legal standing on this?

I'm tempted to reply to the email but will wait until tomorrow

Yes, and you have to wonder why they haven't said it was priced wrongly, and that it was a simple case of a pricing error. That would certainly make sense. However their explanation could potentially mean that  they did have a very limited number for sale at that price, as part of their 'Crazy Queens Birthday sale', but their system oversold them, similar to what happened with that very cheap LG smartwatch..

Read the fair trading act

We got our G watch R's because they only had a limited supply, but did not advertise that the offer was limited to 100 watches - which is different to JB putting the price wrong (though they have not said that).

What they have done still breaches the fair trading act, because they advertised a price and took your money for something they have no intention of fulfilling, all you can do is keep kicking up a public fuss I suppose and hope the PR team tries to mend things by doing what you ask.  Report them to commerce commission but you still won't get a cheap tablet I don't think.

Also just FYI, all online orders from JB Hifi are fulfilled from their St Lukes store.

I guess the second half of it, is that if they do this often enough, it will train us not to trust their deals anymore and just not buy from them online.
