Last scan was succesful, i am creating 2 .ini files for satellite because astra is 282 and eurobird is 285 (i think this might be causing error 6 also).I will create Astra.xml and Eurobird.xml, How can i then merge the xml files together or will BIGSCREEN EPG allow to inport both into windows 7 media center.

According to Lyngsat there is no satellite on 28.5 east.

Eurobird 1, Astra 2A, 2B and 2D are all on 28.2 east.

I might be wrong but I think its possible you may only get now/next EPG if you collect EIT for Pay TV from these satellites.

You may need to collect OpenTV instead which will be available in a new release of the Collector in the next few days.

Cheers GIGGLES , didn't realise that , i just got another code 6.Can a code 6 be produced if a frequency doesnt contain any data ? or am i doing something wrong.

That's interesting. Lyngsat lists Eurobird1 at 28.2 on the sumary page but 28.5 on the frequency page. If you Google Eurobird1 other sites say 28.5 so I think you are right.

I'm not sure the Satellite ini parameter makes any difference (and I wrote the software!!!). I just tried 1234 here (it should be 1600) and it worked fine.

The birtles site looks like a web page scraper which is considered a breach of copyright by providers, as it is. EPG Collector takes the data direct from the broadcast and is therefore perfectly legal and potentially more accurate and up to date.

EIT is the DVB standard for delivering EPG but providers are going away from it so they can control it more effectively. It can provide now/next programs and a 7 day guide. Both are optional.

MHEG5 is another standard for delivering EPG (among other things). It is used by Freeview in a few countries including here and the UK. It provides a 7 day guide.

OpenTV is a proprietary system (from NDS) used mainly by Pay TV providers. It is used here and in Australia and I believe the UK, as well as many other countries. It also provides a 7 day guide.

My grabber is not a web page scraper. Radio times have given us special permission to download the data and even provide machine readable data to download

Hi alanbirtles
I have no problem at all with your grabber ,it is quick and provides a good 7 days or so of epg ,but i'm looking to get epg for other channels that are missing from radio times such as
MOVIES 4 MEN+1
MOVIES 4 MEN 2
among a lot of other free-to-air channels.If it could grab data from http://www.tvguide.co.uk/ it would fill the gap in my epg.

I was just about to make a "HEEEEELP" post, and I thought I'd try one more thing... so now I'm posting to aid everyone else who spends a few hours looking, and not finding...

Let me just precursor all this with saying that I'm a bit of a noob, so it's possible I've missed something obvious, but I spent an hour or so on this and it seems to me that there is some problems with the instructions.

Like many others, I've been procrastinating about embracing the MHEG5 project 'cause I've still had an easy alternative via a working batch file and an internet source... However, I've broken something (or there's been another S&D), so I decided to give it a go.

I'm in Auckland, using DVB-T, a Haupagge xxx, and MediaPortal, so this should have been pretty straight forward.
According to the 'instructions post', the default .ini file should just work for me.

Sidenote:
There is an error in the 'instructions post'
"It will run and in a minute or two produce an XMLTV compliant file called 'XMLTV.xml' "

The default filename is TVGuide.xml, so you'l be outta luck if you're looking for XMLTV.xml.
IT would be good if someone could change the instructions post.

OK, sidenote is over.
My core problem was that my xml was not being created, and I deduced that the frequencies it was scanning was incorrect.
The log file showed lots of these errors:
21:25:23:099 Signal not locked and signal quality not > 0
21:25:24:110 Signal not locked and signal quality not > 0
21:25:25:148 Signal not locked and signal quality not > 0
21:25:26:185 Signal not locked and signal quality not > 0

So, I looked up my MediaPortal config, and discovered that the actual frequencies I am using are NOT the ones prescribed for Auckland in the instructions.
I'm in the middle of Auckland, and my (now working) frequencies are:

#TVNZ (1,2,6,7)
Frequency:530000,8,Y

#MediaWorks (TV3 C4)
Frequency:562000,8,Y

#Prime, Maori, Parliament, ChineseTV, TV Central, Freeview HD
Frequency:626000,8,Y

Feel free to explain why this is the case.

PS: Just before finishing this post, I discovered a missing .dtd file, which is what broke my previous solution :)

The frequencies you've found are Auckland Infill not Waiatura. Googling found me this....

The output file is TVGuide.xml by default, but the instructions post does tell you how to change this.

I'll talk to Giggles and we'll get it updated. Hope it's all go for you now.

Looks like the BBC are going to start Huffman encoding the Freeview HD Guide, to stuff up non freeview certified devices accessing the EPG (like MythTV etc).
The program streams will not be encrypted only the epg data.

Hopefully the Huffman encoding tables are quickly broken by the MythTV team.
(and TVNZ et al don't try this stupidity in NZ:))

Yes I noticed this yesterday.

Fortunately I've recently developed Huffman decompression (it's a widely used compression scheme not encryption) for OpenTV so as long as we can get hold of the 2 tables needed we will be OK either for EIT or MHEG5.

Incidentally OpenTV broadcasters have the ability to broadcast new compression tables so they can change it at will but they have never chosen to do so, at least as far as I know.

It's also been used by FreeSat in Europe for a long time where they compress the textual data in standard EIT descriptors.

At least they chose a scheme that is easily deciphered by examining the data. They could have chosen an encryption system that was much more difficult (or impossible) to circumvent. It is also freely available in the public domain.
