I'll try to make it tomorrow and update Geekzone (via vodafone 3g if its working =p ). Its really gonna suck for Telecom if an injunction is put in place - man their campaign has been slick....

It seems people are forgetting / don't know, that this issue also has been affecting NZ Comms. Do NZ Comms also have head amps? There was no issue before Telecom started bulding their W850 network and now there are two networks that are suffering interference.

I couldn't tell you that. Perhaps JohnR will be at liberty to comment after the Court Decision is handed down tomorrow.

I got the impression that Vodafone cranked up the gain to compensate for losses in the antenna couplers they were using, but I may be wrong. JohnR?

Don't know either. Maybe someone like PenultimateHop or BBman knows the answer?

That's a very good point. According to one of Chris Keall's articles in the NBR, a solution was worked out, and it involved Telecom fitting filters somewhere.

An even more interesting point is that NZ Comms are right in the middle between Telecom and Vodafone, so presumably, they would have been suffering even worse interference???

I don't think they would be suffering worse than Vodafone, NZ Comms if they have Head Amps (would they install Head Amps on build or when required for boosting), I imagine wouldn't need to crank their Head Amp power right up to make up for extra load, or wider coverage as they are building a network from scratch with correct loading and cell tower spacing.

I am looking forward to hearing what the actual Telecom engineers can tell us after midday tomorrow instead of just guessing. Oh to be a radio engineer hehe.

I gather they only normal in the 2.1GHz networks where the losses in the RF cabling is so much higher than in the 800/900MHz networks, but I could be wrong (or out of date)

Joint media statement from Vodafone and Telecom

Vodafone and Telecom NZ have worked together over the last 48 hours to reach a
solution to resolve the issues between them, which have been identified by both
parties.

This agreement has been reached by both parties, to achieve the best outcome for
their customers, the telecommunications industry and all New Zealanders.

Telecom has agreed to extend its network filter installation programme, in order to
help resolve the interference issues identified as impacting Vodafone mobile
customers.

Vodafone has agreed to discontinue the injunction proceedings.

Telecom’s new XT mobile network will go live for New Zealanders by the end of May 2009.
