What is happening here are by-products of non-linearity in Vodafone's Head Amps. There are two main mechanisms by which this can occur:

Broadband troubleshooting and master filter installs.

exportgoldman: So, are mast head amps always a fudge solution for extending coverage, or do normal mobile networks use these
exportgoldman: ...and simply cranking the power up on them is a frowned apon way of increasing coverage?
exportgoldman: Does Telecom's new network have Head Amps?
coffeebaron: It seems people are forgetting / don't know, that this issue also has been affecting NZ Comms. Do NZ Comms also have head amps? There was no issue before Telecom started bulding their W850 network and now there are two networks that are suffering interference.
grant_k: I can't remember what brand of equipment Telecom have installed
grant_k: An even more interesting point is that NZ Comms are right in the middle between Telecom and Vodafone, so presumably, they would have been suffering even worse interference???

I gather they only normal in the 2.1GHz networks where the losses in the RF cabling is so much higher than in the 800/900MHz networks, but I could be wrong (or out of date)

Zeon: Just heard Telecom and Vodafone have reached an out of court settlement.
wellygary:
Telecom’s new XT mobile network will go live for New Zealanders by the end of May 2009.
