Probably because you can't actually get a gigabit on a gigabit connection.

PaulBags: I'm curious what the price will be, though can't imagine needing such speeds. TBH though there's no incentive to move off of copper, with 30/10 being the same price as adsl and 100/20 being the same price as vdsl the advantage of a landline that works in a power cut more than offsets the upload speed I would like but don't need.

At those prices the only reason would be if free installs have a set end date, since it seems likely copper will eventually be mothballed.

Price should be same as current 200/200 prices if 2degrees' pricing is anything to go on.

Would be good to hear something out of Spark on this as it has been almost 3 weeks since gigabit became available and 2degrees and others started upgrading their 200/200 customers for free.

Pricing Gigabit at the same price as 200/200 isn't really sustainable moving forward.

Right now it's fine - data shows a Gigabit user uses no more data than a 200Mbps user and average and peak throughput is identical to a 200Mbps user. For 99% of users there is absolutely no business case at all for moving to Gigabit except being able to post faster speedtest results.

For an RSP however the increased costs to deliver Gigabit can be very significant just to ensure that speedtest results are good.

You're nearly right there Steve... I'd just like to correct one point. You say no use for 99% of customers to go to gig? Nah... It's more like 99.999%

I would like think that RSPs would invest in such a way that the interactive user experience was as good as it can economically be, and not tailor networks and investment to just provide the best speedtest.net results possible.

There's also a $10 bundle up bonus of $10 with qualifying mobile plans (I say it that way because I don't know which mobile plans count!) which brings it to

$139.99 clothed and $129.99 naked.

I have nothing I can share about timeframe sorry.

I wonder how many of these gigabit plans will be used as a portal for a few freiends or neighbours. One 1000/500 plan could easily become 5x 200/100 plans.

In all seriousness, it will not change your perception of the speed of the internet that much if you already on a 100Mbps+ plan.
