Scotty1986: Oh man today my speeds are horrible. Can't watch a YouTube video without buffering. Telecom advertise no more buffering. 2mbps down 2mbps up.

Hi all

Yesterday I got my VDSL router and the chorus technician came and installed the VDSL fitting/ master splitter. He then rang up and I was switched over the a VDSL profile within 6 minutes. I was very happy with all this as he also came 2 hours earlier than expected.

Before VDSL I was:

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps] : 1,00/ 15,556
Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 3.1/ 8.5

After VDSL I am:

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 10,349 / 33,081
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 33.4 / 12.0

I live 650m from the cabinet.

I am wondering about my speeds though, should they be faster than this? Will they continue to change over the next 10 days of tuning? Why has my attenuation shot up so high?

10 days and this should improve for you - it take a wee while for tuning to happen. The attenuation will be higher on VDSL due to the fact there's so much more getting pumped down that copper, it's normal so don't worry about it :)

Anyway, you've got some good speeds seeing you've just started off :)

Thank you for this! After reading your post I was able to set up the modem to use Unotelly DNS just for Netflix. Great to be able to watch TVNZ on Demand or Netflix on the same device without mucking around in the DNS settings anymore.

For reference here are the commands I used:

dns server forward dnsset add set=10 dns=103.6.212.24 metric=10 intf=LocalNetwork
dns server forward rule add idx=20 set=10 domain=netflix.com
dns server config filter=disabled

The Chorus tech did not use the supplied cable to connect to the jack he installed. He used the cable from my ADSL modem. It's also plugged into a ADSL filter. Why did he not use the supplied equipment, surely this would be the standard of its in the box? I was also told I know longer need filters. Today my speeds are 2mbps down 2mbps up. Modem says different thou.

Remember, DLM works during the first 10 days of your connection so your speeds will jump all over the place, it's important to leave it be during this process. Both cables will work fine though but looks like your speeds are improving :)

On my laptop plugged into modem, and my phone over wireless. Using Telecom speed test, and speedtest.net

Don't test over wireless.. and be clear about the units you're talking about :)

how do i find out what DLM i am on and latency?

and i set up the bridge mode on the technicolor while inputting the telecom settings on my netgear router with PPPOE. Is that right?

Strange. I just restarted my laptop and Galaxy Note 2, and done a speed test on a Telecom NZ site (speedtest.telecom.co.nz) It said 23mbps down and 9 up. Both on laptop and phone. Speedtest.net gave similar results. But when I test at Telecoms main speedtest link it goes back to 3mbps up/down. telecom.co.nz/internet/existingcustomers/overview/testyourspeed/

Anyway, 23mbps is not bad (even thou the tech said I should get around 35), and still some time for DLM to work it's magic. One thing worth noting is that Telecom support said I have 5 days left in my 10 day tuning period because he said it starts as soon as the order is placed. Is that true? It only got installed yesterday.

Well your modem says its syncing at 24Mb/s so 23Mb/ speedtest is good. I also would have expected slightly higher sync speed, but once DLM adjustments cut in things may improve, or not.

Your DLM started on 7/11/13 2:32 PM when it detected VDSL on your line was up, there's been no actions on your line since but it should start doing it's thing shortly (it can sometimes take longer than 10 days to test)

Are the DNS servers different for VDSL?

My Router I have populated as:
DNS 1
202.27.158.40

DNS 2
202.27.156.72

Yet the new VDSL router i just got today has the following hard coded:

DNS 1
122.56.237.1

DNS 2
210.55.111.1

It seems to be causing lots of 'website not found' issues - so i am going to have a play around with both - but anyone any idea?

Got VDSL installed today - speedtest.net is actually showing it no better than before and latency is actually worse - but i am really hoping this is going to resolve itself over the next few days.....

After VDSL:

7/16/2013 12:59 AM GMT 222.152.177.10 22.84 Mb/s 0.97 Mb/s 43 ms

Before VDSL:

7/15/2013 10:30 PM GMT 222.152.177.10 21.04 Mb/s 0.96 Mb/s 17 ms

The router itself says its connected at 34 mbit down 10mbit up though:

Uptime: 0 days, 1:47:49

DSL Type: ITU-T G.993.2

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 10,354 / 34,807
