That Output Power is off the rails ... glitch in the reporting?

Daylo: Reading the last few posts, I must be lucky.  As said previously, on ADSL2+ I had 12.3dB down for attenuation (based on modem stats, not a Telecom tool. So is this different?), so was outside the limit as has been described (which was news to me until I read it here). They came & installed. And it's on day 11 as of today.

If you're getting the attenuation from your modem it is reading VDSL attenuation. The attenuation we qualify you for VDSL is ADSL attenuation (they have different frequencies). This is likely why you are seeing such differences

I'd be tempted to check out to see how much of the issues relate to the wiring in the house vs. the street.


He connected my router at the roadside pillar, which was approximately 40m away from where I had it installed in the house.
The stats were still very similar so we discounted it being a issue with house wiring.

I know all this. My post wasn't related to differences in frequency hence my different dB stats between xDSL technologies. It was related to Telecom saying one thing, and delivery being something else i.e. stating 10.8bD minimums.  Which I didn't have (on ADSL), yet I have a pretty decent connection with VDSL now. Anyway, thanks for the response.

The 10.8dB figure is not just based on whether or not you will get a good connection. VDSL will perform very well out to far greater distances (and resulting higher attenuation levels).

However, Chorus will not generally deploy VDSL in these situations, as the interference emitted in to other cable pairs in the same feeder can have a very significant negative effect on other nearby customers.

It's a balancing act between pleasing the single customer on the longer line (i.e. higher attenuation), and disrupting xDSL services for the other 49 customers that are in the same feeder.
