Slightly more consistent but disappointing given I had 30/9 on day one and the modem reports 31/9. Also Chorus said they tested 30/9 to the modem.

Could you include the graphs please? I'm interested to see if the download is consistent like mine, or quite inconsistent like your first post. Although better is possible than 26 on a 31 line, it's certainly not bad.

Cheers - N

Well they are even worse now but consistent! Maybe because of the earthquake in the Wellington area!  It's interesting that upstream speed is pretty consistent and even across the duration of the test.

This is wired using a TPLink and the modem in bridge mode. I did revert back to using the modem for direct access and it made no different. The network is GB all the way through - no wireless.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Are those all taken now, mid evening? Or are they from earlier today?

If it's congestion, then of course you're going to see it mid evening - more so with an event like the Earthquakes around Seddon today...

Try again tomorrow between 8am and about 1pm please and include the graphs from those tests.

Cheers - N

Could you please factory reset* your modem and go via Ethernet to that (without using the TP-Link) - from what it looks like you've got some QoS messing with your speeds, don't use QoS as you'll find on most residential routers it doesn't work well at all.

*Yes, I mean do an actual factory reset on your VDSL modem.

OK I just did that and got the following results using the modem only - no TPLink.

Interestingly as the modem reset I got a text saying your Telecom Broadband is now enabled. When you are ready connect your modem and activate your account. I didn't do that as the account is active.

These are my line stats which for some reason have worsened considerably since when I first tested with the new modem.

Uptime: 0 days, 0:08:11

DSL Type: ITU-T G.993.2

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 10,352 / 30,761

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [B/B]: 0 / 0

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 1.1 / 13.5

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 27.5 / 12.1

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 21.0 / 14.6

When I was DSL I used to get stats like this

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,6 / 0,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 3,8 / 9,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 12,4 / 10,8

The SN Margin and Line Attenuation have gone to pot. I wonder if there is a loose wire somewhere in the connection?

Maybe but on the day off the installation I was getting consistent 29/9.

Chorus tech came thismorning around 9.30.  everything was done quickly and efficiently.  Modem is now syncing at 46,909/10,364. No internet though, he waited for a while and was on the phone with someone  saying he is not supposed to leave until the serice is back up but I guess the person on the other side said not to worry about it as it will come back online soon.  So he left advising me to contact telecom if it's not backup shortly.  I am not home anymore so fingers crossed and hopefully it will be up and running by the time I get home else I will be without internet till someone looks into it tomorrow morning I guess.

Just signed up, only $5/month more then my current plan for same data (which we never managed to use completely) and hopefully significantly better speeds. As a customer coming from another provider the signup is fairly simple, not in too much of a hurry so booked install for a couple of weeks when I was planning on having a day off work anyway hopefully the turn up then.

It's all over the place now. I called Telecom help desk and their staff measured 34/10 on the line and said it must be my problem.

Well it might be but I have no idea where, especially when I did get 29/9 on the first day. And to humour them I wired the modem back as a router bypassing my own router and compared. These charts show two things. First test is with the Technicolor as a router, the second in bridge mode.

Differences are not significant IMHO

Might want to not quote yourself each time - your posts are getting massive ;) could you please get us the error count from the modems WAN interface?

with a line attenuation of 4/10db (D/U) on ADSL, what can be reasonably expected on VDSL?  Distance to cabinet 700 meters.

For interests' sake, can you try the test at pingtest.net ? You'll need Java for the packet loss component to report. It looks like packet loss or error correction issues to me.

I don't do this often, but if you are really keen, I'm prepared to setup an iperf UDP test for you to check if this is actually a network congestion issue.

You'd need...
- 30 mins time tonight sometime between me watching TV
- to be able to setup a port forward in advance
- to be able to download and install something like teamviewer so I can temporarily control your PC (the test requires control at both ends)

If you're keen, pm me and I'll send links to the stuff you'll need.

Cheers - N
