Because your wireless device is probably 54Mbps (802.11g) ?
Check what you're connected as in your Wifi settings.
If you have a Wireless N device (150Mbps - 802.11n) then try testing with that.

If it is a wireless n device, then try switching off Power saving mode on your routers wireless - its in the wireless config options :)

Vince69: VDSL on now for about a month. Stats disappointing so far compared to some on this forum. See below.

Can anyone recommend a VDSL compliant modem?? I have the Technicolor supplied by Telecom but would like to see if I can upgrade from a local retailer like PB Tech.

If it's dissapointing, you could always roll back to ADSL2+?
You wont get better stats with a different modem, the reason your sync speed is lower than others - is due to your high attenuation which is distance related.

You could get a Fritz!Box from eBay, and then do some SNR tweaks...but its up to you if you think an extra couple of Megabit is worth ~$400...

I am connected at 130Mbps using only n. Tried switching offf power saving mode, no luck. Same results.

One week out from install, and I'm on a new DLM profile this morning. I have no idea how to set up a telnet client so I can telnet to my modem, so I'm not sure which profile it is, but after several days of hovering around 18-20mbps down (regardless of time of day), this morning I'm clocking around 25. Upload, as ever, is steady at 8-9. This is a wireless result using an Edimax usb wireless adapter - I am still waiting for my airport extreme card to arrive, and I assume that should give slightly better speeds. Given I'm 600-800m from the cabinet and had a downstream attenuation of 12 before install, I'm quite pleased with the current speed, being a good 10mb better than I had previously.

Thanks for the info! I'm on a Mac, but just typing telnet 192.168.1.254 into Terminal got me where I needed to go. Here is my info - sorry for the horrid formatting.

So I ordered this on Sunday and will be installed Friday, I asked about the free premier pass with new connections. Kind of hoping going from adsl to vdsl would be classed as a new connection, but no. Oh well

I'm still within the 10-day initial period. Is that going to stuff something up? Is there anything I need to do because of it, or does it just mean my 10 days starts again from then?

Don't worry about it. DLM doesn't finish after 10 days, and a single step down the profile or DLM profile doesn't make much real world difference anyway. Your line will eventually get to the most appropriate settings. It's likely a single power off won't change the outcome anyway.

But don't worry. People get far too concerned about this magical 10 day DLM period.

similar for me too.

on Telecom speed test site, I'm getting 65Mbps down, 10 up, when before it was around 45 down, 10 up

(ETA: and modem is syncing at 70Mbps)

not that I'm complaining but I was told that 45Mbps was the maximum I could get, so it seems a little odd

Phew, thank you! I've been so excited to get this installed, I'd hate to mess it up.

LOL, I just remembered when I first got JetStart it was a staggering 128kbps. Amazing how much things have changed in a mere 12 years or so. Hopefully this VDSL speed will suffice until my street eventually gets fibre, whenever that will be. I'm hoping that "dates for your area are yet to be determined" doesn't equal "not until after 2016!"

Be lucky if you can get it in 2016 I say, it's not scheduled for me until 2017+. I live in the metro area of Wellington able to see the Weta Digital green screens from my house, and have built the subscriber management stack for UFB yet can't benefit from the goodness I have built.

My sister, however, is about 100m from another school and she's already connected. Oh well, I guess we'll have to make do with the next best thing for now. At least my upload is decent now. I have LiveDrive remote backup and the initial file transfer took 3 months at a paltry 95kbps!

Hi there,

After 20 days of having VDSL installed, the delay as reported by the modem is 0.00ms

Telecom Speedtest is 5ms

Is the modem showing a correct ms setting, as I don't recall seeing anyone post a 0.00ms yet?
