For quite some time the missus has been unable to top up her prepaid mobile via the telecom website. When you try to top up via the website and credit card option it just times out when trying to connect to this address https://ytcc.telecom.co.nz.
I had a play today and thought it may be because i have set our laptops up to use google dns servers so changed it back to auto set but made no difference. I then tried using my phone as a hotspot and bam it connected straight away.
Anybody know why we would not be able to access it via our normal network connection (vdsl)

Try going to m.telecom.co.nz/yourtelecom and topping up from there. If you are using an Android or iOS device I'd recommend downloading the My Telecom app and topping up from there.

Don't you have to do it over a mobile connection? I recall have the same problem, and I believe you can only topup over 3G

Not 100% sure but I think it should work via the My Telecom app?

That is where she was going. I have put My Telecom on her phone (ios) and she is all set now , Still does not take away it could not be done on line. If it can only be done over a mobile connection I would have thought it would have said something somewhere.

If that is the case its a pity they don't say that somewhere though.

Don't get me started on that topic. Their system is one of the more frustrating systems to top up from an ipad, unless you know exactly how to do it. Each time I top up I always forget exactly the process to follow. But accessing it over 3G is one of the requirements to top up a prepaid account and paying by cc, so if your 3g isn't working , you can't top up. I think it is impossible to top up over an normal fixed line connection. You may want to refer to this thread I started last time I had trouble topping up http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=39&topicid=132251

All you need to do is go to http://www.telecom.co.nz/ytmobile and that works on a desktop, mobile, on 3g or over wifi. And you can topup there.

That doesn't work over a non 3G connection, if you are on an ipad or non Txt capable device, and you don't know the password to logon. This is because it will txt you the password, and as ipad can't receive txts, you can't then get the password to enable you to login.  So the only option is to topup over a 3g connection, which automatically logs you in. I was told by telecom support that the other way is to put the sim into a telecom phone so you can get the txt, but not much good if you don't have a telecom phone to use. I detail the problem in the previous link and the solutions.

If you login over 3g then in the portal there is a link up the top right left called "Change password" you can set your password that way. Click "Forgotten your password" link and you are away.

It happens to be the same password you setup for the app. And I should know as I support the database that holds everyone's password. ;)

So if you go onto http://www.telecom.co.nz/ytmobile over 3G on your non-text capable device.

First click Change Password up the top right.
