Yep, because they've got an america sized problem to fix. Wonder how long voda will keep cable going....

Vodafone paid about $900million for the HFC Telstraclear network and have just recently upgraded to Dociss 3.1 so I would imagine for as long as possible. They would also get a larger profit margin from the HFC network.

It makes you wonder whether the HTC Telstraclear network can remain competitive with fibre over the next few years particularly if existing customers are being advised to switch to real fibre if they want the best service! Would the new fibre network have the capacity to serve all NZ users if Vodafone decides to scrap its network?

It will remain profitable for as long as fibre costs as much as it does. Chorus charges will drop eventually.

On the HFC network myself. I note since VF bought it i'm offered good pricing every year I come out of contract.

Don't they have an agreement where they have to take down the physical infrastructure if they decide to stop selling it?

Presumably that would cost more than the $22 million they invested in the upgrades for FibreX.

And the $900million it cost to buy the HFC network. Plenty of upgrades for Dociss 3.1.

Really it is just down to personal preference (it's like asking a forum which is better; an Iphone or Samsung). Having worked in a telco it is basically the same as they use the same lines.

Some Customer Services are worse than others but if you are not going to be calling them up every day to ask a question then really it shouldn't be a factor. (thus a company like bigpipe that doesn't really have a contact number should be just as fine)

Been on ADSL for 10 years + as well as Fibre and i have not deal with customer services as a whole more than 2-3 times

Don't be confused: the decision is primarily economic rather than technical.

Fibre is definitely better as a technical solution but cable is the best economic solution for many if not most people in cable areas.

A lot of people here say they would never go back to Vodafone. But I'd prefer to listen to current customers, both those who have experienced the best Vodafone has to offer and those who are struggling with issues. That would be the same whichever ISP I was evaluating.

Vodafone pricing is super competitive in cable areas. And the benefits increase the more products you use from Vodafone - such as $10 per month discount for mobile account, Sky TV discounts, etc.

Their website lists many benefits and they also have a great explanation of how best to change providers.

I realise that, who knows what Vodafone will offer in the future. My example shows Dociss 3.1 will be easily upgradeable.

I agree but vfone aren't going to pay $900million for a HFC network plus $22million for Dociss3.1 upgrade and then chuck it all away.
