I have one of those too. I flip-flopped & got a 1803 image and put it onto my spare hard drive & did all the updates. So I won't be using Windows 10 until the K270 issue is sorted. I do have a spare wired PS2 one though. At the moment the drive is sitting there with SATA and power cable disconnected!

Just did the 1809 update & it took just under 3 hours for the whole process. No issues at all with the Logitech K270 keyboard. Everything works fine including printer. Device manager looks all good. Youtubes play perfectly using Edge. I used the update assistant mentioned elsewhere & the download went rapidly up to 10% then slowed to a crawl.

I have done the update and it seems okay except for a laggy start menu, but at least it is working. I really wish they would go back to differentiating their updates better with proper names, like Apple does with now Mac OS. Or even better have incremental updates, that don't require rebooting, like windows 7 and version priors, as I still have far less problems with windows 7 and still use that as my main PC. It seems to be a mobile OS thing to now require updates to be done via a reboot.

CPU used to be around 29%......still shows the same, but the numbers in Taskmaster don't add up!

The items shown only add up to 8.3%!

Chrome used show around 10% yet now shows as the 0.8%, and a plugin module as the top. (Which it had previously!)

It lies!

As per the original release notes for the build:

Known issues with Windows 10 1809 17763

Task Manager is not reporting accurate CPU usage.

I am seeing a slow down in transfer speeds between my laptop and external hard drive since the update. Anyone with the same experience? The speed fluctuates from 50MB/s down to 1MB/s.

Update: even deleting large files on the local SSD is taking forever.

what are the specs of your PC, that's an extremely long time.

RS3 upgrades to RS4 took an average of 30 mins of offline time https://insider.windows.com/en-us/articles/were-listening-to-you/

and my RS4 to RS5 upgrade (probably just like yours was) my PC was offline for under 10 mins

but i notice microsoft edge only works with ipv6 turn on for some reason

googled for a fix can't find anything yet

(i don't use edge only google chrome so it not a big deal for me)

unbinding IPv6 manually is an unusual configuration

but this will be fixed in a cumulative update near the end of the month

It seems like every time these updates install themselves they break something, and I have to resolve it by rolling back. Which I have had to do for the last three - all of which disabled sound on my machine.

It is also annoying that they automatically decide to install without my having to agree to it, and the timing can be inconvenient. Last time I was happily tucked down in bed watching a late night movie. Which suddenly stopped. It turned out that the PC downstairs, which runs a Plex server and was streaming the film to the bedroom, had decided to stop everything and update/reboot right in the middle of the film.

My PC is working fine and is stable. I don't want its setup interfered with, at least not without me explicitly clicking something to agree to it at a time of my choosing. Just like I could with Win7 & Vista "Check for updates but don't install".

I have disabled everything I can think of (the Windows update service etc), but these accursed auto-magic updates still keep coming.

Is there any way I can block them?

(And yes I know the risks, and accept them. A polemic about why disabling updates is a bad idea and why I shouldn't do it isn't what I am looking for).

I've had that happen too. I thought it was supposed to install updates in the wee hours, not at, say, 8 PM. Last time I checked the settings it was set to I think 3 AM but that didn't stop it from rebooting in the middle of streaming something.

the update isn't being pushed to anyones PCs yet. Everyone that's installing it have manually seeked it out, but choosing to install from Windows Update, or the Update Assistant.

Once it starts being pushed from WU, we use machine learning and intelligently selecting devices that our data and feedback predict will have a smooth update experience.

It's really starting to annoy me.

While I mostly like Windows 10 and think it's better than Windows 7 for most of the things I do, this stupid update thing has me on the verge of reformatting my machine and moving it back to Windows 7.

I'm tired of updates installing without my agreement, disrupting what may be happening at the time, and breaking stuff.

Several times I have had queued up video encoding processes that take 5-7 hours to run (compresssing a week or mores worth of recorded HD video from .ts to .mp4 for transfer to my server). I start the process running and go to bed. In the morning I discover it has neither completed nor quit elegantly, because an update installed itself and the machine rebooted half way through.

As well as having to re-do the job, I have to roll-back the machine to remove the update and get it working properly first.

Any advice on how to disable updates would be *really* appreciated.

Otherwise, I think I will rebuild my main machine as a Windows 7 box over Christmas - doing this and finding and reinstalling all the applications will be tedious, but I think worth it if I can't stop these!
