They push the paying option on the mobile app very hard - it's almost always the second or third (sometimes top) story when loading the app - "how the make the best of your premium access" or something.
Hadn't seen this before, but it sounds like more people are viewing Stuff since the paywall was implemented:

NZME are crowing about subscriptions to the paywall - but I wonder what portion are people who get a free subscription via a physical copy of the paper, as opposed to those who actually pay for it?

They can crow about 15,000 subscribers... but their financial result is a disaster!
Subscriber numbers mean very little, ultimately what matters is profit.

"Our Premium digital subscribers are highly engaged, spending three times longer on nzherald.co.nz than non-subscribers," Boggs said.
And if the average non-subscriber is like me, three times zero is ...?
NZME really is a dying business. Their radio audience is aging, print is in terminal decline, their paywalled online offering lacks the credibility to attract serious news junkies, online advertising is being cannibalized the paywall as well as by tech giants, and their real estate and jobs sites are fighting an uphill battle against established players.
I wouldn't want to be a shareholder right now.

Yep. Hard to beleive that NZME is worth $100m - it looks like it'll be a long while til its back paying dividends.
And that Nine wanted more than $50m for Stuff. Given the decline in profitability you'd take the money and run.

I thought I read that Michael bloke saying that their real estate page was going great guns?

Yup. Investing in that business would make about as much sense as buying a video store.
I read the Herald online.
I do not pay. I object to it because for one thing, an awful lot of their pay stuff is swiped straight off other news sites, NY Times for instance, where you can read it free, then Herald has the cheek to charge for it.
The addon works just fine.
Well. Cashflow must be working

New Zealand Herald owner NZME has confirmed it is in discussions in relation to a potential acquisition of Stuff.
Assimilation is inevitable. Resistance is futile

3 times longer because maybe there is 3 times the articles to read on Premium
Common sense is not as common as you think.

Or maybe it says more about the news savviness of the non-subscribers.
